    TX-STAR Speech Language Services partners with school districts throughout Texas to provide specialized educational support for students with a wide range of learning and accessibility needs. We are currently seeking Orientation and Mobility Specialists for school-based opportunities in Houston and surrounding communities.

    These positions are ideal for professionals who are committed to helping students with visual impairments build confidence, increase independence, and travel safely within school and community environments.

    Your Role and Responsibilities

    As an Orientation and Mobility Specialist, you will provide individualized instruction that helps students develop the skills needed to navigate their surroundings safely and effectively.

    In this role, you will:

    • Deliver direct orientation and mobility instruction based on each student’s individual strengths and needs

    • Complete assessments to evaluate travel skills, environmental awareness, mobility challenges, and appropriate supports

    • Develop measurable orientation and mobility goals for students’ Individualized Education Programs

    • Teach safe travel techniques, spatial concepts, route planning, and the effective use of mobility tools

    • Monitor student performance and adjust instructional strategies according to progress and assessment findings

    • Collaborate with teachers, families, campus staff, and multidisciplinary team members

    • Participate in ARD and IEP meetings and provide professional observations, updates, and recommendations

    • Offer consultation and training to educators, support personnel, and families when appropriate

    • Maintain accurate evaluation reports, service records, progress notes, and required compliance documentation

    • Follow applicable district procedures and state and federal special education requirements

    Qualifications for This Position

    • Current certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist through ACVREP

    • Knowledge of assessment methods and instructional practices for students with visual impairments

    • Ability to develop, implement, and monitor individualized orientation and mobility goals

    • Strong written and verbal communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills

    • Ability to work independently while coordinating an assigned caseload and service schedule

    • Excellent organization, documentation, and time-management abilities

    • Certification as a Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments is preferred
