Position Overview

Astute Business Solutions is seeking a Senior Oracle WebLogic / Java Upgrade Consultant to lead enterprise migrations from legacy WebLogic environments to modern, supported architectures. You will drive critical upgrades for clients running Oracle E-Business Suite (EBS) and complex custom Java applications.

Project Context

We are actively transitioning clients off legacy systems to ensure compliance with Oracle's support lifecycle documented in the WLS Roadmap Latest.pdf.

• Premier Support for Fusion Middleware 12c ends in Dec 2026, necessitating migrations from WebLogic 12.2.1.4.
• Target upgrade environments include WebLogic 14.1.1 (where Error Correction ends Dec 2026), Fusion Middleware 14.1.2 (released Dec 2024), and WebLogic 15.1.1 (released Oct 2025).
• Future-proofing strategies will align with the planned release of WebLogic Server version 26 in CY2026 and Fusion Middleware version 27 in CY2027.

Core Responsibilities

• Execute comprehensive pre-upgrade assessments of existing WebLogic, Java, EBS, and custom application landscapes.
• Inventory WebLogic domains, clusters, Managed/Administration Servers, Node Manager configurations, data sources, and security configurations.
• Upgrade and configure WebLogic domains and associated middleware components across development, QA, and production environments.
• Update WebLogic startup scripts, JVM parameters, JAVA_HOME, and CLASSPATH configurations.
• Coordinate seamlessly with Oracle EBS Apps DBAs, Oracle DBAs, Java developers, and security teams.
• Document technical findings, remediation requirements, and operational recommendations.

Custom Java Application Remediation

This role requires deep diagnostic expertise to remediate applications failing or underperforming after migration to newer JDK and WebLogic environments.

• Resolve Java/JDK API compatibility issues, deprecated APIs, and third-party JAR conflicts.
• Troubleshoot classloading issues, Spring/Hibernate framework compatibility, and XML/JAXB dependencies.
• Diagnose and resolve EAR/WAR deployment failures, compilation errors, and runtime exceptions.
• Tune JVM startup parameters, memory, and garbage collection to address post-upgrade performance degradation.

Qualifications Profile

WebLogic Administration

8+ years of hands-on experience with WebLogic 12c/14c architecture, clustering, and version upgrades.

Java/J2EE Ecosystem

Deep technical background in Java EE, JDK upgrades, JDBC, JMS, and REST/SOAP integrations.

Oracle EBS Integration

Strong understanding of Oracle EBS architecture and its relationship with WebLogic and Oracle Database.

Environment & Tooling

Proficiency in Linux/Unix shell scripting, Maven/Ant, and application log analysis.

Security Configuration

Experience configuring SSL/TLS, certificates, and WebLogic authentication frameworks.

Are you comfortable managing the technical ownership of these upgrades from the initial roadmap assessment through the final production cutover?
