A leading technology organization is seeking a Senior Oracle Database Engineer to support enterprise-scale systems within a long-term government technology program. This hands-on position focuses on Oracle SQL and PL/SQL development, production debugging, performance tuning, data analysis, and database-driven integrations.
This is not a traditional DBA-only role. The engineer will troubleshoot complex production issues, optimize existing database code, maintain advanced PL/SQL components, and investigate data flows across databases, APIs, cloud endpoints, files, and integration platforms. The ideal candidate combines deep Oracle development expertise with enough database-administration knowledge to troubleshoot production environments end to end.
RESPONSIBILITIES- Develop, maintain, troubleshoot, and optimize complex Oracle SQL and PL/SQL solutions.
- Debug production database, application-processing, batch, and data issues.
- Maintain packages, procedures, functions, triggers, views, batch jobs, and database interfaces.
- Analyze and refactor existing PL/SQL code and business logic.
- Create ad hoc SQL for investigations, reconciliation, validation, reporting, and operational support.
- Monitor and troubleshoot database-driven data feeds and system integrations.
- Trace failed or incomplete data flows across Oracle and dependent platforms.
- Analyze execution plans and tune SQL and PL/SQL workloads for performance and scalability.
- Investigate indexing, statistics, partitioning, locking, concurrency, and wait-event issues.
- Support database deployments, production releases, incidents, and post-release validation.
- Partner with application, database, integration, and infrastructure teams on complex technical issues.
- Maintain runbooks, troubleshooting documentation, and deployment procedures.
Role Requirements:- 10+ years of enterprise Oracle Database experience.
- Advanced Oracle SQL and PL/SQL development expertise.
- Extensive experience debugging SQL and PL/SQL in production environments.
- Strong knowledge of packages, procedures, functions, triggers, views, dynamic SQL, and bulk processing.
- Strong SQL performance-tuning and execution-plan analysis experience.
- Experience supporting high-volume data processing, ETL, batch processing, and data reconciliation.
- Experience troubleshooting data feeds and system integrations.
- Familiarity with Oracle diagnostic tools such as AWR, ASH, ADDM, SQL Trace, or TKPROF.
- Working knowledge of Oracle RAC, RMAN, Data Guard, security, storage, sessions, and locks.
- Active TS/SCI clearance with Full Scope Polygraph.
- Ability to work onsite in Annapolis, Maryland five days per week.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE- Apache NiFi experience.
- AWS integration or endpoint experience.
- API and file-based integration experience.
- Oracle Exadata.
- Database Vault or Label Security.
- Large-scale database migration experience.
