About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Oracle Database Administrator to join our client [IT Infrastructure / Database Engineering] team. In this role, you will be the technical authority responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of our mission-critical Oracle database ecosystems. You will focus primarily on Oracle Database while also supporting cross-platform database technologies.

The ideal candidate is a proactive problem-solver who can architect high-availability solutions, optimize performance at scale, and mentor junior team members.

Key Responsibilities

Database Administration & Architecture (Oracle)

• Design & Implement HA/DR: Architect, configure, and maintain high-availability and disaster recovery solutions, specifically Oracle Grid Infrastructure / Real Application Clusters (RAC) and Data Guard.

• Backup & Recovery: Own the backup and recovery strategy using RMAN, ensuring RPO/RTO targets are met. Perform regular recovery drills.

• Performance Tuning: Proactively monitor and optimize database performance using AWR, ADDM, ASH, and SQL Tuning Advisor. Resolve locking, latch contention, and I/O bottlenecks.

• PL/SQL Development: Develop and maintain complex PL/SQL scripts, stored procedures, packages, and triggers for automation and business logic.

• Patching & Upgrades: Manage Oracle version upgrades, Patch Set Updates (PSUs), and Release Updates (RUs) with minimal downtime.

• Standards & Governance: Establish and enforce database standards, policies, and procedures for security, backup/recovery, and change management.

Cloud & Cross-Platform Support

• Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI): Deploy, manage, and optimize Oracle databases on OCI (IaaS/PaaS), including Autonomous Database and Exadata Cloud Service.

• Other RDBMS: Provide administrative support and migration assistance for SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, and MariaDB.

• Legacy Systems: Maintain and support legacy Microsoft Access databases.

• Integration: Ensure seamless data flow and connectivity between disparate database platforms.

Operational Excellence

• Security: Implement database security best practices, including Transparent Data Encryption (TDE), Oracle Label Security, auditing, and role-based access control (RBAC).

• Troubleshooting: Act as the escalation point for complex database issues, providing root cause analysis (RCA) and permanent fixes.

• Automation: Leverage shell scripting, Ansible, or other tools to automate routine DBA tasks.

• Migration: Lead cross-platform database migrations (e.g., on-premises to OCI, Oracle to PostgreSQL).

Required Qualifications (Must-Have)

• Experience: 8+ years of proven experience as an Oracle DBA in an enterprise environment.

• Oracle Mastery:

  • Deep expertise in Oracle Grid Infrastructure / RAC.

  • Advanced RMAN backup and recovery skills.

  • Proven track record of Data Guard design and implementation (Physical Standby, Active Data Guard).

  • Strong PL/SQL development and tuning capabilities.

  • Extensive experience with patching (PSU/RU) and version upgrades (11g, 12c, 19c, 21c).

  • Hands-on experience with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).

• Secondary Database Exposure: Hands-on experience with SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, and MariaDB.

• Legacy Systems: Experience supporting Microsoft Access.

• Certifications:Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) is required.

Preferred Qualifications (Nice-to-Have)

• Cloud Certifications:OCI Architect Associate/Professional or OCI Database Cloud Service certifications.

• Experience with Oracle Exadata and GoldenGate.

• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools (Terraform, Ansible).

• Familiarity with third-party monitoring tools (OEM, Quest Foglight, SolarWinds).

• Experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) for databases.
