Description

Oracle Data Architect / Developer Lead

Location: Dallas, TX/Raleigh, NC/Hybrid Experience: 16+ years

About the Role

We're looking for an experienced Oracle Data Architect / Developer Lead to own the application data design and provide hands-on technical leadership for systems that process very large data volumes, including workloads of around 300 million records per month.

You'll work with business and technology stakeholders to turn complex requirements into scalable, maintainable, high-performing Oracle solutions. This is a hands-on architecture and development leadership role. It is not a DBA, database operations, or production support position.

What You'll Do

Business Analysis and Solution Design

  • Analyze business requirements, rules, data flows, dependencies, and non-functional requirements
  • Convert business needs into detailed data designs and practical development approaches
  • Evaluate solution options and communicate trade-offs across performance, scalability, maintainability, risk, and complexity
  • Collaborate with business, application, data, infrastructure, and QA teams throughout delivery

Oracle Architecture and Development

  • Design logical and physical data models, schemas, tables, views, packages, procedures, and functions
  • Develop complex, performant SQL and PL/SQL for high-volume transactional, batch, reconciliation, and reporting workloads
  • Define strategies for partitioning, indexing, aggregation, retention, archival, and purge
  • Design efficient batch and bulk-processing patterns
  • Ensure solutions meet functional, data-quality, audit, and security requirements

Performance Engineering

  • Own performance analysis and remediation across the Oracle data layer
  • Analyze execution plans, optimizer behavior, wait events, and data distribution
  • Optimize SQL, PL/SQL, joins, access paths, indexes, partitions, and statistics
  • Design solutions that process hundreds of millions of records within agreed processing windows
  • Define performance test scenarios, benchmarks, and acceptance criteria before production deployment
  • Lead root-cause analysis and implement sustainable fixes, not short-term workarounds

Technical Leadership

  • Provide hands-on direction to Oracle developers and partner engineering teams
  • Review designs, data models, SQL, and PL/SQL for quality, performance, and maintainability
  • Establish development standards, reusable patterns, code-review practices, and performance guardrails
  • Contribute to backlog refinement, estimation, sprint planning, design reviews, testing, and release readiness
What You Bring (Must Have)
  • 16+ years designing and developing enterprise Oracle solutions for large-scale, mission-critical applications
  • Expert-level Oracle SQL and PL/SQL, including design, review, troubleshooting, and optimization of complex code
  • Deep Oracle performance engineering expertise: execution-plan analysis, cost-based optimizer, statistics, wait events, query tuning
  • Strong data architecture and modeling skills: logical and physical modeling, normalization and denormalization, access patterns, data lifecycle management
  • Proven experience building solutions that process hundreds of millions of records within defined batch or transaction windows
  • Strong knowledge of partitioning, indexing, materialized views, parallel processing, bulk operations, and large-table design
  • Business data analysis experience, translating business needs into effective Oracle designs
  • Experience leading development delivery, conducting design and code reviews, and defining standards
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills for both business and technical audiences
  • Experience in Agile delivery environments
Nice to Have
  • Financial services, brokerage, capital markets, asset management, or other regulated, data-intensive environments
  • Experience with high-volume transaction, accrual, reconciliation, accounting, or reporting solutions
  • Oracle Exadata and cloud platforms (AWS or OCI) as they relate to solution design and performance
  • Data integration and streaming tools such as Informatica, SnapLogic, or Kafka
  • CI/CD, automated database deployments, version control, and test automation
