Minimum Qualifications

Two years of secretarial or clerical work experience.

Prior fisheries experience

Candidates who speak Spanish

Requirements:

Employment in this position is contingent upon a satisfactory Level 1 and Level 2 background check at no cost to the candidate.

Valid Driver's License

Office hours are from 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. Eastern Standard Time, Monday through Friday.

Position Overview and Responsibilities:

Assist marine fisheries trip ticket staff with the compilation of commercial fisheries catch and effort data submitted electronically to the marine trip ticket program. This includes but is not limited to: contacting commercial saltwater dealers via phone and email to question them about data flagged during routine QA/QC, enter information gathered from dealer contacts into centralized locations for data compliers to use, reviewing data as requested by trip ticket staff for errors, answer phone calls from commercial fishers and dealers, and processing landings requests from fishers and dealers for endorsements and other qualifications.

Prepare reports, summaries and/ or interpretations of fisheries catch and effort data in response to requests by state and federal fisheries managers, fisheries organizations, individual fishers and dealers, and the scientific community. Process landings requests from fishers and dealers for endorsements and other qualifications.

Assist commercial dealers in getting set up to begin electronic reporting and resolve data reporting issues. Communicate as needed with electronic program vendor on issues related to dealer data and application maintenance

Assist other institute personnel as assigned. Participate in public outreach efforts and design displays as appropriate. Perform miscellaneous data entry as needed. Access and work with data stored on electronic devices. Use image processing software to produce presentations, tables, and/or figures. Scan documents for electronic storage as needed.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of: Personal computer operations; word processing and spreadsheet software

Ability to organize work, work quickly and accurately, follow verbal and written instructions, and work with limited supervision

Ability to communicate to the public effectively, with tact and diplomacy

Ability to maintain electronic records

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships

Possess good customer service, telephone and clerical skills
