Description

Slingsby & Huot Eye Associates is seeking an Ophthalmic Technician & Clinical Scribe to support our ophthalmology team in Rapid City, SD. This full-time, in-office position combines direct patient preparation and clinical testing with accurate documentation and support for our providers throughout the patient visit.

What You’ll Do

  • Prepare patients for examinations and obtain accurate medical and ocular histories
  • Update and maintain complete, accurate patient charts
  • Perform ophthalmic testing and preliminary measurements as directed by providers
  • Utilize equipment and testing methods including tonometry, lensometry, keratometry, visual fields, Amsler testing, muscle fields, and pupil examinations
  • Assist with visual acuity testing and refracting as appropriate
  • Document patient information and examination findings accurately within electronic medical records
  • Provide clinical support to ophthalmologists during patient examinations
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of eye anatomy, common ocular conditions, and ophthalmic medications
  • Assist with other clinical and office responsibilities as needed
  • Travel to outreach locations with providers for occasional day trips when needed

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong patient-service and communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities
  • Ability to remain efficient and professional in a busy clinical setting
  • Previous ophthalmic or clinical experience preferred
  • Familiarity with ophthalmic testing and examination procedures preferred
  • Experience with EMR and practice management systems is a plus
  • Ability to adapt to changing assignments and work effectively as part of a team
  • Willingness to learn and take on additional responsibilities
  • Ophthalmic certifications such as COA, COT, or COMT are valued
  • Surgical experience is a plus, but not required
