Position Description:
As an Operations Technical Project Manager for data collection, you support the deployment and execution of complex human data collection programs for AI research and development. This role sits at the intersection of technical operations, engineering, research, and program management, ensuring that on-site data collection systems produce high-quality datasets.
The ideal candidate has hands-on experience building and deploying collection rigs, supporting the integration of hardware and software systems, developing collection protocols, managing technical operations with human participants, and driving data quality throughout the collection lifecycle. They are comfortable troubleshooting hardware and implementing operational processes that ensure consistent, auditable, and high-quality data. Collaboration with multiple locations and cross-functional teams will be key to maintaining and improving customer satisfaction.
Main Responsibilities:
- Support end-to-end planning and execution of on-site AI data collection programs.
- Manage the technical setup and lead teams in building physical infrastructure and system integrations for data collection projects to meet client requirements.
- Establish and enforce best practices for the technical setup and data tracking.
- Ensure operational readiness through rigorous checks and testing, training the teams on collection protocols, and setting the standards to achieve consistent data quality.
- Manage, support, and provide training and onboarding for other project resources.
- Proactively drive customer success by leveraging innovative thinking and cross-functional collaboration to ensure project delivery consistently aligns with client expectations.
- Deploy and manage complex data collection rigs consisting of cameras, sensors, microphones, wearables, eye tracking, motion capture, biometric devices, and other collection hardware.
- Coordinate hardware procurement, inventory, configuration, deployment, maintenance, and lifecycle management.
- Support engineering teams in integrating collection software with hardware systems.
- Validate system performance before production collection.
Troubleshoot technical issues during live collection sessions, on-site or remotely, and coordinate rapid resolution.
- Coordinate integrations between: collection applications, device management systems, data storage platforms, metadata systems, scheduling platforms, and participant management systems
- Ensure synchronisation across multiple collection devices and sensors.
- Manage multiple concurrent collection initiatives across various projects and locations.
- Monitor collection execution to ensure consistency across operators and locations, investigate issues and drive corrective actions.
- Establish quality standards and monitor data integrity throughout the collection process.
- Implement tracking, auditing, and reporting processes for datasets and operational metrics.
- Support the planning and monitoring of projects with on-site and off-site teams to meet deadlines, quality, and budget requirements
- Collaborate with internal teams to initiate, document, and implement procedural changes and customized workflows.
- Work with internal and client teams on innovative technical solutions to improve process workflows (Optimization through Automation).
- Identify technical and operational risks and drive mitigation strategies.
Requirements:
- Bachelor''s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or relevant work experience on projects requiring technical proficiency.
- Demonstrable experience deploying and supporting technical collection hardware for on-site data collections.
- Experience working with varied data collection protocols and training large teams on new protocols and processes.
- Working knowledge of command-line interfaces (CLI) and terminal commands. Familiarity with Python or other scripting languages is a plus.
- 2+ years of technical project or data collection management experience.
- Experience managing complex on-site data collection projects.
- Strong understanding of data quality management practices.
- Understanding of system integration principles.
- Experience developing operational workflows and SOPs.
- Experience managing projects involving human participants.
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to function productively and proactively in a fast-moving, rapidly changing environment and deal effectively with ambiguity while meeting challenging delivery timelines.
