A growing heavy industrial and environmental services organization is seeking an experienced Operations Manager to lead day-to-day operations across a diverse site that includes landfill, stone crushing, C&D recycling, mulching/grinding, MSW transfer, and solidification operations.
This is a hands-on leadership role with responsibility for people, production, heavy equipment, maintenance oversight, safety, compliance, and financial performance. The site is expanding, and this position is being hired with future growth in mind.Responsibilities
    • Lead daily site operations and a team of approximately 40 operators, mechanics, and production employees.
    • Manage staffing, scheduling, training, performance, safety, and productivity.
    • Oversee heavy equipment maintenance, including preventive maintenance, repairs, downtime, equipment availability, and parts needs.
    • Work closely with mechanics on loaders, excavators, crushers, grinders, screening equipment, and other heavy machinery.
    • Understand heavy equipment and maintenance well enough to recognize issues, speak the language of maintenance, determine what needs to happen when equipment breaks down, prioritize repairs, and ensure work is completed.
    • Manage production and throughput across landfill, crushing, recycling, mulching/grinding, transfer station, and solidification operations.
    • Manage operational budgets and P&L performance, including labor, fuel, maintenance costs, forecasting, and cost control.
    • Track KPIs including equipment uptime, tons per hour, cost per ton, downtime, safety, and budget performance.
    • Maintain compliance with applicable OSHA, DOT, environmental, and permit requirements.
    • Partner with Maintenance, Safety, Finance, HR, and leadership on staffing, equipment, capacity, and continued site expansion.
    • Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, productivity, safety, and operating costs.
    Qualifications
    • 7+ years of supervisory or management experience in heavy industrial, waste, environmental, aggregate, recycling, or related operations.
    • Operational experience in at least two of the following: landfill, MSW transfer, stone crushing/aggregate, mulching/grinding, solidification, or C&D recycling.
    • Strong working knowledge of heavy equipment and maintenance. You do not need to be a mechanic, but you must understand equipment systems, maintenance terminology, troubleshooting, and repair requirements well enough to effectively oversee the maintenance function.
    • Experience overseeing preventive maintenance, equipment repairs, downtime/uptime, and maintenance personnel.
    • Proven experience leading operators, mechanics, and/or production teams.
    • P&L and operational budgeting experience, including cost control and variance analysis.
    • Strong safety and environmental compliance knowledge.
    • Strong analytical, leadership, and communication skills.
    • Ability to maintain a consistent on-site presence and respond to operational needs as necessary.
Why This Opportunity? This is a position supporting significant site expansion. The organization is hiring for where the operation is going, not simply where it is today.
The person selected may initially have greater experience and capacity than the position requires day to day. As the site expands, the scope and complexity of the role are expected to grow substantially. This is an opportunity to join early, help build the operational structure needed for that growth, and become a key part of the organization's long-term leadership team.
