Position Summary:

This Operations Manager reports to the Director of Operations and is responsible for assisting in the administration, planning, budgeting, and direction for the operations of the Center, including back-of-house services, technical services, information technology, conversion, custodial services, and equipment inventory control. Insures an effective and cost-efficient program by controlling the Operations budget, and performs related day-to-day responsibilities as required.

 

Coordinates all elements of facility operations including budgeting, purchasing, directs the operation and maintenance of the mechanical, electrical, HVAC, custodial, grounds, sound, lighting, a/v equipment, tele-communications systems, security, smoke/fire detectors and traffic control. The manager will serve as the facility safety chairman to maintain a safe and secure facility for the public and employees.

 

This role will pay a salary of $55,000 to $60,000.

About the Venue:

Formerly the Casper Events Center, the venue was renamed to the Ford Wyoming Center in January 2021. The Center is a 28,000 square foot multi-purpose facility, built high on a hill overlooking the city of Casper, Casper Mountain, and the scenic Platte River Valley. Funded entirely by the City’s portion of an optional 1% sales tax, the venue opened on April 17, 1982. The arena features a horseshoe-shaped seating bowl with 8,000 seats.

 

The Ford Wyoming Center hosts a variety of different events each year, including concerts, sporting events, family shows, trade shows, competitions, religious services, bull riding competitions, commencement ceremonies, lectures, and political rallies, among other corporate and community events. The arena is host to the Wyoming High School Basketball, Volleyball, and Wrestling Tournaments, the Wyoming High School Art Symposium, Wyoming High School Marching Band Competition, and Wyoming High School Spirit and Cheer Competition. The venue has been home of the College National Finals Rodeo each June since 2001.

Responsibilities:
  • Assists the Director of Operations in the overall daily operation and maintenance of the facilities.  
  • Plan, direct, coordinate, and review the work plan for all event changeovers; meet with staff to identify and resolve problems; assign work activities, projects, and programs; monitor work flow; review and evaluate work products, methods, and procedures.
  • Select, train, motivate, and evaluate staff; provide or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline and termination procedures.
  • Coordinate and review the work plan for changeover, facility maintenance, and operations; meet with staff to identify and resolve problems; assign work activities, projects, and programs; monitor workflow; review and evaluate work products, methods, and procedures.
  • Coordinate labor hours for staff and temporary workers. Report labor allocations to the Director of Finance.
  • Participate in the development and administration of the Operations budget; forecast additional funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies; monitor and approve expenditures; implement adjustments as necessary.
  • Coordinate facility arrangements and monitor the work of contractors, including equipment rental and borrowing City/County equipment. Report any issues to the Director of Operations immediately.
  • Ensure staff are working safely, efficiently, and are aware of proper safety guidelines. 
  • Order supplies and materials for maintenance programs within budget guidelines; receive and maintain supplies.
  • Maintain hazardous materials communication program, material safety data sheets, and required records and permits; maintain knowledge of changes in pertinent Federal, State, and Local regulations.
  • Develop and maintain an accurate record-keeping system, including equipment maintenance and inventory logs.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university in a related field (Facility Management, Engineering, Sports Management, etc.) preferred; High School Diploma (or equivalent) required.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in an operations position in the arena, convention center, or public assembly facility with knowledge of setup/housekeeping and event coordination, including progressive supervisory responsibility.
  • Familiarity with OSHA requirements.
  • Strong interpersonal skills required, including excellent verbal and written communication skills in the English language.
  • Self-motivated with excellent organizational skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, evenings, overnights, weekends, holidays, and an extended number of consecutive days.
  • The duties of this position are performed indoors and occasionally outdoors in the weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level in the work environments is usually moderate to loud during events and minimal during non-event times.
