The CHM West Michigan Operations Coordinator assists with the oversight, inspection, maintenance and repair of building facilities and equipment and performs tasks necessary for basic preventative maintenance on various mechanical, electrical, and structural systems located in the Michigan State University Grand Rapids Research Center (GRRC), Doug Meijer Medical Innovation Building (DMMIB) and the Secchia Center. This role coordinates safety monitoring with Environmental Health and Safety, assists in developing and implementing policies and procedures to support the building operations and serves as a point-person for internal maintenance requests using a work order system. The Operations Coordinator maintains inventory for maintenance-related items and performs additional building specific duties as assigned.
Percentage Allocation of Major Responsibilities
40% Assists with facilitating the daily operations of the Grand Rapids Research Center, the Secchia Center, and the Doug Meijer Medical Innovation Building to ensure successful research and academic/business outcomes. Responsible for performing maintenance and repairs of building systems, equipment, and structures.
40% Assists with event setup, lab moves/retrofits and manages work requests
15% Ensures health and safety standards are maintained to comply with university, state, and federal rules and regulations and assists with mandated compliance checks and inspections
5% Performs other duties as requested, including cross-training to assist coworkers as appropriate or when workload dictates.
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired through the first two or three years of college, such as an Associate’s degree in a business-related field or in a field related to the area of employment; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in performing tasks related to the area of employment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Possession of a valid Michigan vehicles operator's license(s) is necessary. Frequent lifting of less than 25 pounds and occasional lifting of over 75 pounds is required.
