    Under the direction and supervision of licensed personnel, the Operating Room Assistant assists in providing direct patient care and tasks required for daily unit functions.

    Job Description

    Minimum Training and Education:  High school diploma or equivalency (GED) with at least six months of experience working in a hospital setting.  Completion of a recognized allied health h course or six months patient care experience in a health care setting preferred. May require working irregular hours, rotating shifts and weekends.

    Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations: Basic Life Support (BLS) within the first two weeks of hire.  Thereafter, must maintain a current Basic Life Support (BLS), either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.

    Additional Job Description

    Minimum Requirements: At least 1 year work experience in a .6fte Operating Room Assistant position at MUSC CHS or 1 year of patient care work experience in a health care facility; or a college degree, or active enrollment in nursing school with completion of Nursing Fundamentals from an accredited institution; or active enrollment in a healthcare related field from an accredited institution; or a Nursing Assistant or Medical Assistant, or equivalent training. Credentials: Basic Life Support required within 2 weeks of hire. Thereafter, must maintain. Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required.
