Position: Instructor for Opening Doors Program - Community Education

Location: Community Education / Various Locations

Schedule: 2 days / week, 2-4 hours / day, 12 months /year

Benefits & Pay Schedule: $18.31 - $19.30, this is not a benefit eligible position

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Community Education Opening Doors (Adults with Disabilities) Program class instructor/activity leader is responsible for providing on-site supervision of registered consumers during designated hours. Opening Doors instructors work in partnership with other district staff, including Community Education Coordinators and community members to help make sponsored activities fun, socially appropriate, user-friendly and safe for citizens of all ages. Typical activities offered by the Opening Doors program include bingo, bowling, crafts, cooking, movie nights, basketball and general community outings. Class instructors shall implement, enforce and recommend improvements to district policies and procedures regarding Opening Doors classes and activities.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Opening Doors instructors lead, demonstrate, supervise and direct Opening Doors consumer recreation and leisure activities.
  • Experience working directly with adults with disabilities in recreation or social setting is desirable but not required.
  • A passion for working with others is of primary importance.
  • Ability to travel from one area to another using personal vehicle required.
  • Ability to pass background check.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain working relations with supervisors and fellow workers.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Community Education office.
