QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: • A J.D. degree from an ABA-approved law school and excellent academic credentials.

Certifications/ Licensure: • Admission to the North Carolina State Bar, or eligibility and willingness to sit for the North Carolina Bar Examination.

Experience and Training: We encourage applications from candidates with expertise in a wide variety of fields, including but not limited to: • Elder Law • Access to Healthcare • Social Security Disability • Technology & Intellectual Property • Criminal Defense • Transactional/Entrepreneurship Law

Knowledge, Skills, Ability: • Significant practice experience (typically 5+ years preferred) in the area of proposed focus. • Demonstrated potential for or experience in clinical teaching and supervision of students. • A commitment to public service, social justice, and client-centered representation.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

This position provides a unique opportunity to design and direct a new, innovative law clinic. The successful candidate will be responsible for:

Clinic Development: Designing and implementing a new in-house clinic that provides high-quality legal services to clients while offering rich educational opportunities for law students.

Supervise Students: Mentoring and supervising student attorneys in direct, live-client representation, including case selection, litigation, negotiation, or policy advocacy.

Teach Seminar: Developing and teaching a seminar component that educates students by integrating substantive law with practical skills, ethics, and critical theory.

Foster Partnerships: Building and maintaining relationships with community partners, social service providers, medical professionals, and others to address systemic issues.

ACCOUNTABILITY: • Performs all job responsibilities independently • Reports directly to Dean.
