The Department of Health and Biomedical Sciences at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley is inviting applications for a full-time faculty position in the Master of Science in Health Science (MSHS) Program. This is an open-rank, clinical-track solicitation. Faculty rank and salary will be commensurate with the applicant's experience and qualifications and will be based on established university and department standards. The start date for the position is September 1, 2027. The position will be a nine-month contract, with the potential for summer teaching opportunities.

The successful candidate will complete the required training to teach online, design and implement curriculum for graduate-level health science courses, participate in university, professional, and community service, and engage in scholarship. All faculty will be expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to student success and to advancing the university, college, department, and program missions, as well as a commitment to UTRGV's strategic plan, vision, mission, values, and core priorities. Department/College Background

The College of Health Professions (CoHP) at UTRGV includes ten health professions departments and offers 11 undergraduate, 12 graduate, and 3 doctoral degree programs. The CoHP and programmatic faculty work closely with the UTRGV School of Medicine, School of Podiatric Medicine, School of Nursing, and the UT Health System to provide robust interprofessional education opportunities and training experiences for health professions students.

The Department of Health and Biomedical Sciences is housed on both the Brownsville and Edinburg UTRGV campuses. The MSHS program is an Accelerated Online Program (AOP) offered in a completely online, asynchronous format. The program serves a diverse student population and offers a unique interdisciplinary approach to health sciences graduate education.

Minimum Qualifications

The successful candidate at the Clinical Assistant Professor level must meet the following requirements:

  1. PhD/DHI in Health Informatics, Biomedical Informatics, Nursing Informatics, Health Information Management, OR a terminal degree in a closely related discipline with a health informatics focus (Information Science, Computer Science) may be considered with a minimum of five years of directly related health informatics industry experience, OR a master's degree in health informatics/health information management may be considered with a minimum of seven years of directly related health informatics industry experience.

  2. Current board certification from professional organizations such as AHIMA, AMIA, ANCC, HIMSS, or the Project Management Institute.

  3. One year of teaching experience, preferably teaching health informatics courses.

In addition to the previous requirements, the successful candidate at the Clinical Associate Professor level must also have:

  1. Demonstrated success in full-time university teaching, research/scholarship, and/or service.

  2. Eight or more years of professional practice, leadership, innovation, and specialization in health informatics.

  3. Recent significant scholarly or scholarship/research contributions in the candidate's academic area (s) of specialization that have received peer recognition.

  4. A minimum of 5 years of full-time university faculty experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Demonstrated online teaching experience.

  2. Work in Six Sigma, Lean, Quality, Project Management, or other performance disciplines.

  3. Quality Matters APPQMR certification.

  4. Ability to collaborate with a variety of healthcare professionals within a university setting

  5. Evidence of commitment to the profession of health informatics through active involvement in a professional organization.

UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code §51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in

length.
