Job Purpose

Alamance County Public Libraries (ACPL) is seeking a Courier to transport 30 - 40 crates of books, DVDs, etc. on a daily basis.

The Courier must be at least 21 years old and have a valid N.C. driver's license with a clean driving record. The Courier must be able to stand extended periods of time, work independently, possess a high school diploma or GED, and work Monday and Friday mornings for up to 10 hours per week. Infrequent extra hours may be scheduled to complete special projects.

Alamance County Public Libraries function as a department of Alamance County (N.C.) Government.

Responsibilities

External Duties

  • Deliver items (books, DVDs, etc.), furniture, and various programming supplies to library branches.
  • Deliver inter-office mail to and from the County Office building.
  • Move donated materials from various library locations for Friends of the Library.
  • Coordinate with Outreach and help deliver items to retirement homes once a month, or as needed.
  • Maintain the courier van by ensuring fuel levels, inspections, routine maintenance, and other required services are completed as needed.

Internal Duties

  • Various handyman tasks, i.e., putting furniture together using power tools, putting up shelving, fixing broken chairs, etc.
  • Move furniture, shelving, craft supplies, and various other items between branches.
  • Check and replace, if needed, air fresheners throughout May Memorial.
  • Fill out the daily checklist for the courier van and give it to the Office Manager at the end of each week.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 21 years old and have a valid NC driver's license.
  • Pass Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check with clean driving record required.
  • A high school diploma or GED is required
  • Flexibility in scheduling is required
  • Proficiency in written and verbal communication is required
  • Ability to work with individuals of diverse populations with respect and equitable service is required

Health Insurance - Part-time employees are eligible for medical/health (Cigna Insurance) benefits upon the 1st of the month following the 30-day waiting period. Part-time insurance rates are structured based on hours worked.

Alamance County Government currently offers three plans of medical/pharmacy benefit options including a COPAY Plan 70, COPAY Plan 80 and a QHDHP with HSA.

Dental & Vision Insurance - A voluntary dental (Delta Dental) and vision program (Superior Vision) is available to PT employees. The current PPO style plan allows employees to be provided access to dental and vision providers for a variety of services. The plan, if elected, would be effective the first of the month following 30 days of PT employment. Coverage must be elected within your first 30 days of PT employment or upon a qualifying event.

Retirement Benefits - Membership in the NC Local Government Employees Retirement System (NCLGERS) is a requirement for all full-time and regular part-time employees (working more than 1,000 hours annually). Employees contribute six percent (6%) of their annual compensation before it is taxed. If you leave the County service before retirement, you may withdraw your retirement contributions or elect to freeze your contributions in anticipation of future local government employment. If you have at least five (5) years of service, you are considered 100% vested in NCLGERS. Alamance County will be contributing a percentage as required by NCLEGRS on your behalf as well.
