St. Louis Countys Department of Transportation and Public Works seeks to fill the role of Office Services Specialist, for their Code Enforcement division. It is expected this specialist will perform complex office duties in support of the Chief Plumbing Supervisor and his team. As such, this will require in-depth knowledge of state and local statutes, ordinances and codes.
The successful candidate will be interpreting, verifying, updating, recording, and processing information and documents; interacting with the public and County departments providing technical assistance and guidance; preparing reports and documentation; and processing and maintaining written and computerized records.
The schedule for this position is 8 hours a day, Monday - Friday.

Essential Function Examples
Interpret, verify, update, record and process information and documents based on technical knowledge of the units operation and relevant policies statutes, ordinances and codes.
Issue and approve applications for permits, licenses or bonds.
Interact with the general public and County Departmental contacts under adverse conditions as necessary.
Provide technical assistance and guidance to employees and the general public.
Marginal Function Examples
Prepare reports, summaries and documentation for use at meetings and for processing paperwork.
May calculate and receive payments, issue receipts and reconcile cash drawer.
Process and maintain written and computerized records.
Perform other duties as required or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Equivalent to three years of experience in a general office environment.

SELECTION AND APPOINTMENT: A selection committee will evaluate the qualifications of each applicant which will include recentness and appropriateness of the applicants education and experience, answers to the supplemental questions, results of employment references investigated and any other appropriate information available.
The selection committee will admit to the interview only those persons who possess the most job-related qualifications and may establish admittance criteria beyond the minimum qualifications stated above. The interview will comprise 100% of the applicants earned grade. A candidate must earn a qualifying grade of 70 or more on the interview to be eligible for appointment. After initial interviews with the selected candidates are conducted, an email will be sent to the address on file with instructions on how to complete and submit a Conviction Questionnaire. Candidates have 3 days to complete the required questionnaire.
The five top ranking candidates, based on the final grade, will be certified to the Department Director/Appointing Authority who will make the final decision.
All applicants conditionally offered a merit position will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Screening will be performed by a reputable clinical laboratory. The cost of screening will be covered by the County.
