OFFICE MANAGER - KANSAS CITY BARBEQUE SOCIETY (KCBS)

A steady, well-run office job at one of KC's most fun nonprofits - and this job you can actually leave at the office.

Location: On-site at our Kansas City office, Monday-Friday

Schedule: Full-time, regular daytime hours. A few weekends a year (3-4) and one work trip for our events, with dates known well in advance. No work coming home with you.

Pay: $50,000

Benefits: Health insurance, 401(k) with up to 4% match, paid time off, and nine paid holidays - benefits stronger than you'd expect from an organization our size.

ABOUT KCBS

The Kansas City Barbeque Society is a nonprofit of 15,000+ members who sanction competitions, crown champions, and keep the culture of barbeque alive. We've been at it for [40+] years. We're a small, friendly staff, and we're looking for the dependable person who keeps our office and our books in good order.

Here's the honest pitch: this is a calm, predictable role. The work is steady rather than frantic - busier around our events, quieter in between - and at the end of the day, you're actually home. If you're competent, organized, and you'd rather have a job that respects your life than one that runs it, this is a good seat. And it happens to be at one of the more fun organizations ever.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

- Keep the books tidy. Routine bookkeeping in QuickBooks Online: accounts payable and receivable, reconciliations, and helping pull together monthly statements with our outside accountant. Nothing exotic, just done accurately and on time.

- Keep the office running. Organize our systems and schedules and keep day-to-day operations smooth.

- Take care of our members. Answer member and vendor questions with patience and a friendly tone. They're good people and a pleasure to help.

- Lend a hand with events. Help with logistics around the competitions and gatherings that make KCBS what it is - the part of the job that gets you out from behind the desk.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

- A few years of bookkeeping and/or office experience - comfortable with both the numbers and the day-to-day organizing

- Working knowledge of QuickBooks Online and Microsoft Office

- Organized, dependable, and able to work independently

- A friendly, patient communicator who likes helping people

- Fine with a few event weekends a year and one trip

- Willing to learn our internal membership system (we'll train you)

- Nonprofit experience is a plus, not a requirement

WHY KCBS

- Balance that's real, not promised. Predictable hours, no take-home stress, and an organization that means it.

- It's barbeque. You'll interact with folks who love barbeque from all over the world and occasionally, you'll be in person at our events.

- You'll matter here. On a small team, the person keeping things organized is visible and appreciated, not buried in a department somewhere in the back of the building. (Truthfully, our building is too small to be able to hide)

- Stability you can count on. An established organization with a long history, a large and loyal membership, and professionally managed payroll and benefits.
