Main Purpose of Job
Assist the Office Manager and Marina Manager in the day-to-day operations of Somers Cove Marina. This position is key to accurately compiling and posting information concerning marina operations including completion of slip-holder contracts. This position also leads and assists in training seasonal contractual positions in docking vessels, fueling vessels and checking vessels to ensure they are floating adequately.
POSITION DUTIES
The Department of Natural Resources, Fishing & Boating, Somers Cove Marina, is currently accepting applications for a 12 Month Office Clerk position.
Duties of this position will be to work with staff to:
Â
Answer phones and take messagesÂ
Lead seasonal employees in general customer serviceÂ
Register and check in boatersÂ
Responsible for closing out of POS and Fuel Dock dailyÂ
Organizes, compiles and accurately records data;Â
Communicates with the boating public to acquire information;Â
Completes yearly, monthly and weekly deadlines on time and accuratelyÂ
Assist and function as a trainer for contractual employeesÂ
Assist boaters in docking for fuel, pump outs and slipsÂ
Answer questions about the marina and local areaÂ
Perform general housekeepingÂ
Pick up litter and any other duties deemed necessary by the classified staffÂ
Some heavy lifting is possibleÂ
Brisk walking a must
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:Â Completion of the eighth grade.
Experience: Six months experience performing clerical duties in an office environment.
Notes:
Additional experience performing clerical duties may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate may be substituted for the required experience.
Six months clerical training with three courses in subjects such as keyboarding, clerical math, word processing, spreadsheets, database, graphics presentation, proofreading, or office etiquette may be substituted for the required experience.4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Administration classifications or Administrative, Clerical or Office Services specialty codes in the Clerical Support field of work on a year-for year basis for the required experience.

BENEFITS
Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
Leave may be granted to a contractual employee at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
