What You Will Do

The Safeguards Science and Technology Group (NEN-1) is seeking a motivated, customer-service-oriented Administrative Assistant to provide administrative and operational support to a dynamic organization supporting national security missions. NEN-1 currently consists of approximately 80 employees, including scientists, engineers, professionals, technicians, technologists, postdoctoral researchers, and students.

NEN-1 develops technologies and systems for the safeguarding of nuclear materials through nondestructive assay measurements and analysis. The group also maintains a robust training program that delivers approximately 30 technical courses annually.

The selected candidate will provide administrative support to group management and staff, helping ensure the smooth execution of day-to-day business operations. The successful candidate will be expected to manage multiple competing priorities, provide outstanding customer service, maintain attention to detail, and exercise sound judgment in resolving routine administrative issues.

This position requires a team-oriented individual who is organized, adaptable, and capable of working effectively in a fast-paced environment while maintaining professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality.
What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:
  • Demonstrated experience performing administrative support functions in a professional office environment.
  • Advanced computer skills using Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and SharePoint.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and use Laboratory business systems such as Oracle, Concur, Ariba, FVTS, and related systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize, and complete multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to work effectively under deadlines and changing priorities.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent customer service, verbal communication, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment and resolve routine administrative issues.
  • Ability to work with sensitive information appropriately.
  • Demonstrated record of dependability, attendance, and professionalism.

Education/Experience
Position requires a High School Diploma and three years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.Additional administrative training, certifications, or education are desirable.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience supporting technical, scientific, engineering, or research organizations.
  • Experience with LANL business systems, including:

  • Concur travel
  • Ariba

  • FVTS
  • Experience coordinating domestic and foreign travel.
  • Experience coordinating visitors, including non-U.S. citizens.

  • Designated Procurement Representative (DPR) experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to build effective working relationships across organizations.
  • Experience supporting meeting and event logistics.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
