The Katherine Thomas School in Rockville, MD has an opening beginning with the 2026/2027 school year for a Full-Time Occupational Therapist or an experienced COTA. The Katherine Thomas School is a private, non-profit special education school that services students with language, learning, sensory motor disabilities, and autism that serves students in grades K - 12. KTS offers smaller caseloads and more face to face time than many other programs. EOE
Salary range for 10 months for the OT is $65,500 - $76,000, depending on experience
Salary range for 10 months for the COTA is $50,000 - $65,000, depending on experience
Responsibilities of the Occupational Therapist:
- Evaluate and provide individual and group therapy as well as classroom integrative services
- Work closely with the educational team to provide comprehensive services to students on their caseload
- Prepare accurate and timely documentation and report progress of students
- Participate in school and departmental staff meetings
Responsibilities of the COTA:
- Assist with and contribute to the diagnostic and rehabilitative services provided by the school Occupational Therapy department
- In collaboration with and under the supervision of an OTR/L, provide quality direct patient care, including evaluation, treatment planning, implementation, and follow-up of occupational therapy, according to accepted standards of practice.
- Maintain knowledge of the principles, practices, methods, and techniques of occupational therapy

Requirements for the Occupational Therapist:
- Master's from an accredited Occupational Therapy program
- Certified by the American Occupational Therapy Association
- Eligibility for Maryland licensure must be established prior to employment
- Two to three years of pediatric experience and at least 1 year of school experience is preferred
- Assistive technology experience a plus
- Ability to determine the need for an occupational therapy evaluation
- Ability to develop occupationally based intervention plans
Requirements for the COTA:
- Associate's degree in occupational therapy from an accredited educational program
- Certification by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy and eligibility for a Maryland licensure must be established prior to employment
- Two to three years of pediatric experience and at least 1 year of school experience is preferred
- Must maintain current licensure and certification status consistent with state and professional standards
