Occupational Therapist Assistant

Job Summary

The Occupational Therapist Assistant, under the direction of an Occupational Therapist, is responsible for assisting with performing tests and providing restorative and rehabilitative Occupational Therapy services to participants both at the center and at home. The goal is to maximize participant independence and safety and enhance the performance of Activities of Daily Living (ADLs). The assistant will work with other members of the rehabilitation team to implement the plan of care established by the Occupational Therapist. Effective collaboration with colleagues and stakeholders is essential to promote team culture and mission.

Job Responsibilities

• Administer participants' treatment programs as established by the Occupational Therapist.
• Assist the Occupational Therapist in obtaining vital signs, range of motion, and strength testing.
• Coordinate with other rehabilitation team members to implement activities and programs based on the participant's individual treatment plans.
• Handle scheduling of participants' treatment, clinical visits, and billing.
• Deliver and document Occupational Therapy interventions in accordance with the established care plans, including the use of devices, techniques, and activities to promote muscle re-education, perceptual-motor and cognitive function, balance, and endurance.
• Provide training and instructions to staff, participants, and caregivers/families in the use and care of therapeutic equipment.
• Track and manage maintenance for equipment.
• Remain alert to pertinent input from team members, participants, and caregivers, and promptly update the Occupational Therapist or Interdisciplinary Team of any changes in participants' condition or functional status.
• Participate under the supervision of the Occupational Therapist in end-of-life care coordination and support.
• Ensure legal authorization to practice in the position location.
• Only act within the scope of authority to practice.
• Complete all required documentation in a timely and accurate manner.
• Protect privacy and maintain confidentiality of all procedures and information about team members, participants, and families.
• Follow policies and procedures and participate in required Quality Improvement activities, staff training, and meetings.
• Communicate regularly with the supervisor and team regarding workload and priorities.
• Complete all mandated training and education timely.
• Complete all mandated occupational health screenings as needed.
• Exercise flexibility in performing assignments as business needs evolve.
• Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills & Experience

• Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a clinical setting with a frail or elderly population.
• Knowledge and skills necessary to treat frail, elderly participants with complex needs.
• Highly motivated, self-directed, able to execute tasks in a quickly changing environment, and make sound decisions in emergency situations.
• Excellent clinical, organizational, and communication skills in settings with seniors, their families, and interdisciplinary team members.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Demonstrated ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience and competency working with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
• Commitment to unlocking the full potential of vulnerable seniors.

Schedule Notes

Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. On-site work is required for three days, with two days off-site work, which may include mobile visits to participants' homes for treatments, equipment setup/training, and some telehealth. Responsibilities also include scheduling recurring appointments for Physical Therapists and Occupational Therapists, as well as cleaning and maintaining the rehab gym.
