    Occupational Health & Safety Specialist

    Full-time

    USA (York, PA, Dallas, TX, Detroit, MI and Tampa, FL )

    The Occupational Health and Safety Specialist is responsible for establishing and promoting a safe, accident-free, and healthy work environment across multiple facilities. This individual is accountable for continually striving to work toward the minimization of on-the-job injuries, material handling equipment accidents, dangerous goods incidents and associated safety related costs and achieving the planned safety targets.

    How You'll Help

    • Investigate Health and safety concerns/incidents to help Day & Ross teams determine the root cause and the corrective actions.
    • Communicate with Day & Ross teams concerning internal health and safety audits. Assist in creating action items and follow up to confirm resolutions.
    • Grow the safety culture and drive the Day & Ross Safety Management System (SMS
    • Complete SMS audits, and Mini Audits across multiple Day & Ross locations.
    • Develop safe work practices in accordance with legislated regulations.
    • Develop and review safety policies and procedures in accordance with legislated regulations.
    • Provide assistance to managers/supervisors to ensure there is documented training, and all employees are aware of and understand workplace hazards and safety practices.
    • Use the Day & Ross risk assessment process to evaluate high-risk activities within our operations.
    • Work with Day & Ross teams to establish goals based on incident trends to reduce/eliminate recordable and first aid incidents.
    • Create safety lessons learned to assist the Day & Ross teams communicate the corrective actions identified to reduce/eliminate recordable incidents.
    • Develop and provide safety training for employees on policies, regulations, and procedures
    • Must be able to understand and interpret federal, state and local safety and health regulations
    • Support company employees with various safety initiatives
    • Travel to various company work sites in all weather conditions as needed
    • May be required to be stationed at a job site for an extended period of time
    • Maintain OSHA recordkeeping requirements and incident documentation. Including serious injury reporting and OSHA 300 logs.
    • Assist with coaching & reinforcing the workers compensation process
    • Support return-to-work and transitional duty initiatives.
    • Other duties as required.

    Your Skills & Experience:

    • Bachelor's Degree in Safety or related field and/or 2 years of experience in the safety field supporting a safety program
    • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) Designation Preferred
    • A suitable combination of education and experience may be considered
    • Communication skills - advanced
    • Computer skills - accuracy, MS products, Truck Mate & other web based programs
    • Demonstrated customer relationship skills
    • Analytical and problem-solving skills
    • Effective written and communications skills
    • Attention to detail and high level of accuracy
    • Strong conflict resolution skills
    • Able to work deadlines in high transactional environment
    • Presentation skills, and working knowledge of adult learning principles
    • Ability to champion business needs in a collaborative manner to colleagues
    • Results focused
    • English, other languages an asset
    • Able to work with little supervision

    Working Conditions

    Travel/Mobility

    • 50% travel required.
    • Must have a valid drivers license
    • Personal vehicle required.

    Environment

    • Busy office environment with extensive computer work and handling of documentation
    • Required to visit other locations, including offices, terminals, maintenance shops, etc.
    • Working outdoors in a variety of weather environments
    • Close proximity to moving vehicles and equipment

    Physicality

    • Extended periods sitting working on a computer and on a phone
    • Environment of physical activity, including bending, stretching, lifting, etc. May be required to lift, reach, stoop, stand, grasp, balance, climb, kneel, and crouch for extended periods.
    • Walk (up to 100 meters).

    Work Schedule

    • Normally 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday; may be required to work different or additional hours from time to time

    Safety

    • Must follow all company requirements to promote a safe work environment. Perform all work safely in a fast-paced work environment. Required PPE must be worn at all times.
