Job Title: Occupational Health Nurse – 3rd Shift
Location: Austin, TX
Duration: 11 Months
Pay Rate:$40-$42 on W2 per/hour
Hours: 3rd shift (Sunday is from 9 pm to 5:30am and Monday through Thursday from 11pm to 7:30am) Off Friday and Saturday


Position Summary
Manage primary and secondary work-related and personal disability cases within a multi-shift manufacturing facility. Serve as a liaison for employees and management regarding work-related accommodations, job placement, and fitness-for-duty decisions. Support coordination and quality assurance of state and federal mandated occupational health programs focused on health surveillance and risk reduction. Assist in planning and delivering occupational health initiatives including employee orientation, supervisor training, in-service education, clinic standardization, and health promotion activities. Ensure clinic operations are properly equipped with required supplies, equipment, and resources for safe and efficient functioning.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
• Coordinate care for occupational injuries and illnesses, including health assessments, development of treatment plans, facilitation of medical services, and collaboration with healthcare providers. Evaluate treatment effectiveness and document all clinical activities. Partner with management on work restrictions, accommodations, rehabilitation plans, and return-to-work (work hardening) programs for employees recovering from work-related or personal conditions.
• Maintain accurate medical records by filing and updating both paper and electronic health records for active and former employees.
• Serve as a subject matter resource for leave of absence and workers’ compensation programs under HR leadership guidance.
• Review and evaluate weekly sick and disability claims to ensure appropriate recovery timelines and support safe return-to-work decisions. Collaborate with payroll and HR on disability program administration.
• Conduct periodic workplace walkthroughs at Austin and Round Rock facilities to understand job functions, physical demands, and production processes. Perform job analyses and recommend workplace accommodations or modifications.
• Identify workplace hazards and assist leadership in developing and implementing risk reduction and prevention strategies.
• Assess employee fitness-for-duty based on medical status and job physical requirements, ensuring appropriate placement and safe job performance.
• Assist in developing and maintaining site-specific occupational health policies, procedures, and quality assurance indicators to ensure compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements.
• Maintain infection control protocols and update occupational health SOPs. Ensure proper handling and disposal of biohazard waste in compliance with OSHA and applicable regulations.
• Interpret and apply OSHA and regulatory standards for health surveillance and screening programs. Conduct periodic audits for programs including hearing conservation, respiratory protection, forklift medical clearance, hepatitis B vaccination, and bloodborne pathogen exposure management.
• Develop and maintain occupational health policies, procedures, and protocols to standardize care and ensure quality nursing practice.
• Administer workplace wellness programs including planning, implementation, and evaluation of health promotion and risk reduction initiatives.
• Support reproductive hazard reduction programs through employee education, medical monitoring, and job assignment evaluation.
• Develop and deliver training materials and presentations on occupational health topics, regulatory updates, and best practices.
• Conduct new hire orientation sessions and periodically assess training effectiveness to improve educational programs.
• Perform other related duties as assigned or required.
Knowledge & Skills
• Ability to exercise independent clinical judgment in the treatment and management of occupational injuries and illnesses.
• Strong knowledge of medical record documentation and confidentiality requirements.
• Ability to perform effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions.
• Strong customer service skills with the ability to balance employee care and business needs.
• Skilled in diplomacy and collaboration to ensure completion of required medical evaluations and programs across departments.
• Strict adherence to confidentiality standards at all times.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills across all organizational levels.
• Knowledge of FMLA, Texas Workers’ Compensation regulations, HIPAA, and privacy laws.
• Strong case management skills.
• Proficiency in occupational health laboratory equipment and procedures.
• Strong computer and documentation skills.
Minimum Qualifications, Education & Experience
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must hold an active Registered Nurse license in the state of Texas.
• Occupational and Environmental Health Nursing experience strongly preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years nursing experience required.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
• Must be willing to work flexible hours, including overtime, on-call, and 3rd shift schedules.
• Fast-paced clinic environment with frequent interruptions and competing priorities.
• Exposure to manufacturing and cleanroom environments is required.
• Requires high level of concentration to manage clinic flow and occupational health activities.
• Requires dexterity for first aid, clinical testing, and laboratory procedures.
• Potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens and infectious materials.
• Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs unassisted.
• Occasional travel (less than 5%).
