    Description

    Occupational Health and Safety Coordinator

    The individual in this position will be responsible for coordinating the overall health and safety programs at our manufacturing plant in Birmingham, Alabama. The OHSC will provide first aid services for individuals that are injured or become ill at the facility and actively manage all worker's compensation and short-term disability cases. Additional responsibilities include proactively identifying potential safety and health hazards, developing and implementing employee programs such as health education, accident prevention, wellness and the OSHA and Sterilite required safety training programs.

    Responsibilities include the following:

    • Provide direct care for the treatment of occupational injuries and illnesses using established medical protocols and refer for further evaluation or treatment as necessary.
    • Collaborate with management to further the objectives of health and safety programs.
    • Actively manage all worker's compensation and short term disability cases which includes the initial processing of documents, consulting with insurance carriers and medical providers while continually monitoring the employee's recovery process in an effort to accelerate the return to work process and reduce costs.

    Coordinates post offer pre-employment physical assessments and substance use testing on all candidates as directed by policy.

    • Coordinates occupational health surveillance testing including pulmonary function testing, audiometric testing, vision screening, etc. as needed by Job Hazard Analysis.

    Coordinates the annual OSHA and Sterilite required safety training such as lock out tag out, hot work, first aid and CPR etc.

    • Collect and analyze data to establish health priorities and interventions.

    Chairs the Safety Committee

    Participates in the accident investigation and root cause analysis of all accident or near miss incidents.

    Collaborates in the design of controls for injury/illness prevention and health surveillance related to actual and potential hazards in the plant.

    Maintains and safeguards the confidentiality of employee health and medical records in compliance with HIPPA regulations.

    Coordinates wellness and health promotions at the local level.

    Education and Experience:

    • Preferred Education: Four year Bachelor's Degree
    • 2-5 years experience in occupational health and Safety, in a manufacturing environment is Preferred.

    Additional Responsibilities

    • Must have Knowledge of laws and regulations that govern worker's compensation and environmental health and safety
    • Periodic travel may be required
    • Driver's License Preferred
    • Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office, Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint
    • Must have the ability to Exercising Independent Judgment
    • Must have the ability to Performing Multiple Functions/Activities
    • Must be able to perform with Minimal Guidance or Direction
    • This position requires spending numerous hours on the Manufacturing/Warehouse plant production floor

    Licenses and Professional Certifications

    • License to practice as a registered nurse in the state of employment - Preferred
    • EMT Certified
