Key Responsibilities
- Develop occupant CAE models using LS-DYNA for various vehicle crash modes.
- Collaborate with vehicle crash safety and program design teams to support occupant safety development.
- Work with design and release teams and component suppliers to ensure CAE models are properly correlated and validated.
- Conduct Design of Experiments (DOE) and Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) studies using optimization tools to meet performance requirements while considering cost and weight constraints.
- Support rapid concept development of new and emerging engineering solutions.
- Evaluate system-level occupant performance across relevant impact configurations.
- Optimize the performance of occupant safety components, including airbags, seat belts, steering columns, seats, instrument panels, and interior trim.
- Collaborate with structural engineering teams to address challenges affecting occupant performance targets.
- Support the development of standard work procedures to ensure high-quality CAE models and simulation results.
- Work cross-functionally to identify and resolve technical challenges while meeting engineering requirements.
- Participate in design reviews and present engineering concepts and recommendations.
- Recommend design improvements and refinements to enhance vehicle safety performance.
- Support occupant safety attribute delivery through high-quality CAE models throughout all vehicle development phases, including Start of Production (SOP).
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in Occupant Safety CAE.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience designing and launching safety systems from concept through production.
- Strong engineering mechanics fundamentals.
- Knowledge of global passive safety regulations and publicly available safety requirements.
- Experience with nonlinear finite element analysis and model correlation.
- Strong technical expertise in safety engineering and simulation.
- Ability to apply first-principles engineering approaches to problem-solving.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within diverse, cross-functional teams.
