Pay: $43.00-$53.00/Hr
Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced OBD Core Calibration Engineer to support the development, validation, and delivery of production-ready onboard diagnostic (OBD) calibrations across gasoline, diesel, hybrid, and battery electric vehicle applications.
This is a hands-on calibration role involving OBD diagnostic monitors, vehicle testing, ETAS INCA and/or ATI Vision, DTC validation, data analysis, and powertrain controls. The engineer will work closely with calibration, controls, compliance, simulation, and vehicle program teams to ensure diagnostic systems are robust, compliant, and ready for production.
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and validate OBD diagnostic and engine/powertrain calibrations for production vehicle programs.
  • Perform hands-on vehicle-level OBD testing, data collection, analysis, and diagnostic validation.
  • Use ETAS INCA and/or ATI Vision to collect vehicle data, evaluate diagnostic performance, and support calibration changes.
  • Complete design verification (DV), OBD signoff, and self-certification testing.
  • Evaluate DTC fault detection and clearing behavior to ensure diagnostics operate accurately and robustly.
  • Analyze development and quality data to identify hardware, software, or calibration-related root causes.
  • Support troubleshooting and corrective actions for launch, production, warranty, and field issues.
  • Collaborate with HIL, SIL, M-HIL, and CAE teams on virtual diagnostic fault and DTC demonstrations.
  • Support OBD sensitivity testing and vehicle development trips, including testing at remote locations when required.
  • Develop and improve data-processing tools and scripts used for calibration and diagnostic analysis.
  • Improve calibration processes, technical documentation, release error-proofing, and testing guidelines.
  • Work with compliance teams to support OBD regulatory requirements and production vehicle evaluation activities.
  • Prepare technical documentation and communicate calibration status, findings, and recommendations to engineering teams.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • 2+ years of powertrain calibration and/or OBD calibration experience.
  • Hands-on experience with engine diagnostics, OBD feature calibration, or diagnostic monitor validation.
  • Experience using ETAS INCA and/or ATI Vision for calibration and vehicle data acquisition.
  • Experience with vehicle emissions testing, OBD DV testing, and/or on-road vehicle evaluation.
  • Understanding of combustion engines and basic engine/powertrain control systems.
  • Knowledge of OBD/DTC systems and worldwide OBD regulatory requirements.
  • Strong data-analysis, statistical analysis, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis skills.
  • Ability to work effectively across multiple engineering teams and manage multiple priorities.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to remote development/testing locations as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 5+ years of OBD calibration experience, including program delivery through launch.
  • Experience taking OBD or powertrain calibrations through DV, signoff, launch, and production quality feedback.
  • Experience with automotive engine controls software, OBD systems, or functional safety.
  • Experience troubleshooting field or warranty issues and implementing calibration fixes.
  • Experience using MATLAB/Simulink to analyze engineering data or understand model-based controls software.
  • Python experience for engineering data analysis and automation.
  • Experience creating MATLAB or Python scripts/tools for calibration data processing.
  • Ability to read and interpret C source code.
  • Experience with HIL/SIL testing, emissions testing, DTC fault insertion, or diagnostic monitor development.
  • Master's degree in Engineering.
What We're Looking For
The ideal candidate is a hands-on calibration engineer who understands both how the powertrain operates and how the vehicle determines when something has gone wrong. You should be comfortable collecting vehicle data, diagnosing abnormal behavior, adjusting or supporting calibration changes, retesting the vehicle, and helping determine whether an OBD monitor is ready for production.
Experience specifically involving OBD calibration + ETAS INCA/ATI Vision + vehicle testing + powertrain controls will be highly valued.
Work Environment
  • Hybrid: Onsite Monday through Thursday
  • Candidates must be able to begin onsite as required.
  • In-person interviews may be requested.
  • Some travel to remote testing locations may be required for vehicle development and validation activities.

Benefits: 80 hours paid time off, medical insurance contributions, dental vision and our 401k retirement savings plan.
