Position Announcement

Join Utah Valley University's Outdoor Adventure Center and help inspire a vibrant outdoor recreation community through creative storytelling and engagement. As the Social Media Specialist, you will play a key role in showcasing adventure experiences, promoting programs and services, and connecting students and community members with opportunities to explore the outdoors. This position offers a dynamic blend of marketing, content creation, event participation, and digital communications, allowing you to capture authentic experiences while building skills in social media management, website administration, and audience engagement.

Working alongside a dedicated team, you will contribute to the success of outdoor trips, climbing programs, equipment rentals, and leadership development initiatives. Whether documenting adventures in the field, creating compelling digital content, or collaborating on innovative outreach efforts, you will have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on participant experiences while growing your professional expertise in a fun, active, and mission-driven environment.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Manage social media for the program. Organize daily posts on Instagram and Facebook. Update the OAC website, trips calendar of events, and online registrations. Administer and promote online registrations for trips and events through Campus Connection and University Tickets. Arrange advertising and scheduling through the university calendar program, live. Print and promote the trip calendar each semester with all OAC events.
  • Create new opportunities for social media engagement; surveys, polls, how-to videos, program specials, and participant experiences. Offer feedback for employees dealing with marketing, enforce and adhere to all university and Outdoor Adventure Center policies and procedures.
  • Attend leadership training sessions, weekly managers meetings, various trips and events, schedule out social media posts, respond to social media direct messages, and advise the program director with marketing needs.
  • Promote and market the OAC overall offerings to the UVU campus and community.

Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications

An Associates degree or related work experience, or a combination of education and experience, totaling at least two years.

For example:

  • An Associates degree (typically 2 years).
  • OR 2 years of related work experience.
  • OR 1 year of college coursework + 1 year of related experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • One year of professional marketing experience.

Licenses or Certifications

  • Basic CPR, First Aid, and AED.

  • Safe Driver Training (will provide within 3 months of hire).

  • General knowledge of various outdoor activities: climbing, canyoneering, mountain biking, skiing, snowboarding, white water rafting and kayaking, backpacking, and camping.

About Company

Utah Valley University was established in 1941 as Central Utah Vocational School (CUVS) with the primary function of providing war production training. CUVS was part of the Provo School District located in south Provo. The institution received a state appropriation in March 1945 of $50,000 to operate for the 1945-1947 biennium. In 1947, the school received funding as a permanent state institution. A new site for the school was acquired on University Avenue in Provo in 1948; in the 1952, the state appropriated funding for the first construction on that site. As enrollments grew, the state acquired over 185 acres in southwest Orem and the first building was completed in 1977. Today, the University’s facilities consist of a combined total of 412 acres with 50 buildings with campuses in Orem, Provo, and Heber City and property in Vineyard and at Thanksgiving Point in Lehi.
