This position is only open to current Pacific University undergraduate students who are participating in the TRIO Program.

Title of Position: NWS - TRIO Peer Mentor 26-27

Department Name, location of department: TRIO Program Office, AuCoin Hall, Forest Grove Campus

Purpose of Position: This is an in-person, part-time (5 hours/week) role that will serve multiple functions. Peer mentors will serve as mentors for incoming first-year and transfer students participating in the TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) program. Peer mentors will also help design and eventually lead SSS workshops and social events. Peer mentors will serve as ambassadors to help prospective participants understand the potential benefits of joining TRIO. They will represent TRIO on campus by participating in classroom visits, facilitating events, and helping their peers navigate questions about the college experience. Peer mentors will advise, guide, and be a resource to TRIO students.

Length of employment: October-May, 2026-2027 academic year. 5hr/week average.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Regularly attend scheduled monthly one-on-one or group meetings with mentees.
  • Plan and facilitate workshops in topics like academic planning, time management, scholarships, financial literacy, professional development and internships, in collaboration with TRIO staff.
  • Attend weekly leadership meetings with TRIO SSS staff.
  • Participate in TRIO SSS recruitment activities including: tabling, classroom visits, etc.
  • Plan, promote and carry out monthly TRIO SSS social events.
  • Develop and maintain TRIO social media and newsletter.
  • Record contacts with mentees on StudentAccess (TRIO Database).
  • Assist mentees and fellow participants with navigating Pacific University online tools, including TRIO Moodle, BoxerOnline and other online services.
  • Help mentees with goal setting, and professional and personal development.
  • Refer students to appropriate university resources as needed.
  • Troubleshoot and provide feedback on TRIO SSS policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Wage rate: $16.80, minimum wage

Qualifications:

  • Current Pacific University TRIO SSS participant.
  • Junior or senior standing preferred; sophomore or second-semester freshman possible.
  • Direct participation experience in a TRIO program (highly desired), or experience with challenges familiar to SSS participants.
  • In good academic standing, with a recommended cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher (lower GPA subject to review).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of campus and community resources.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong time management skills and ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently with attention to detail.
  • Proactively seek creative solutions to problems and challenges as they arise.
  • Highly motivated to support the well-being and success of peers.
  • Demonstrated interest in supporting the well-being and success of peers.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to follow and apply the principles of FERPA and Title IX, as well as the TRIO program's ethical standards and code of conduct.
  • Working conditions are a general office environment with public contact. Office hours are Monday-Friday from 9-5. However, this role will require flexible hours.
