Paid time off and other benefits are offered in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement with the Public School Employees of Kelso Chapter #1 found HERE.School employees | Washington State Health Care Authority JOB SUMMARY:The job of "Nutrition Services Helper/Cashier" is done for the purpose/s of preparing and distributing food items for consumption by students and school personnel and maintaining facilities in a sanitary condition and securing funds for daily meal transactions; depositing funds and balancing accounts and adhering to accounting practices for monies handled.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Upholds board policies and follows administrative proceduresCleans utensils, equipment and the storage, food preparation and serving areas for the purpose of maintaining sanitary conditionsEnsures foods reach and maintain proper temperatures and are entered into log book for the purpose of meeting mandated food safety requirements and for the safety of our students and staffEstimates food preparation amounts for the purpose of meeting projected meal requirements and minimizing wasteInspects one or more items of food and/or supplies for the purpose of verifying quantity and specifications of orders and/or complying with mandated health requirementsPrepares documentation for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying informationPrepares food and beverage items for the purpose of meeting mandated nutritional requirements and projected meal requirementsResponds to inquiries of students, staff and the public for the purpose of providing information and/or direction regarding the type and/or cost of mealsReports equipment malfunctions for the purpose of maintaining equipment in safe working orderReports any accidents or injuries immediately to the Food Services Manager for the purpose of maintaining a safe work environmentServes one or more items of foods for the purpose of meeting mandated nutritional requirements and/or requests of students and school personnelStocks food, condiments and supplies for the purpose of maintaining adequate quantities and security of itemsCollects payments (e.g. cash or checks) for the purpose of completing meal transactionsFiles records and keeps accurate account of information for the purpose of federal and state reportingReconciles transactions for the purpose of balancing accounts and adhering to accounting practicesOTHER FUNCTIONS:Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activitiesBakes one or more items of baked goods for the purpose of providing food items to meet projected meal requirementsPerforms all other duties and participates in meetings and in-service offerings as required for the purpose of keeping abreast of current information in this fieldTakes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilitiesAssists in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and board policiesQUALIFICATIONS:Prior job related experience in food preparation, serving and basic kitchen activitiesDemonstrated skills to perform basic arithmetic calculations, adjust recipes to various quantity demands, operate and care for institutional kitchen equipment, and computer skillsKnowledge of modern methods of food preparation, health codes and sanitation principles, and nutritional and safety requirementsKnowledge of basic cash handling procedures, health codes and sanitation principlesAbility to stand for prolonged periods, understand and carry out oral and written instructions, supervise students, and work as a team member with students and co-workers.
