NUTRITION SERVICES - GENERAL ASSISTANT

JOB LOCATION: Riverside Middle School

DAYS: Monday - Friday on days school is in session

HOURS: 3.0 hours per day, scheduled hours between 10:15 am-1:15 pm, varies based on daily school schedule

PAY RATE: Grade D, Step 1 - $15.08 per hour

START DATE: Late-August 2026

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • HS Diploma or GED
  • Aptitude for passing ServSafe Food Handler course within first 12 months of employment
  • Basic email and computer familiarity
  • Aptitude for basic mathematical calculations & cash handling
  • General manual dexterity
  • Ability to manage time effectively in a fast-paced work environment
  • Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, team members, building staff & students
  • Ability to accept direction and work both independently & in a team environment
  • Ability to demonstrate high level of dependability
  • Ability to properly operate and care for food service equipment
  • Attentive to detail
  • Ability to lift up to 40-50 lb. with occasional to moderate frequency
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective collaborative working relationships with co-workers
  • Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism in interactions with staff & students at all times

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Perform routine food service tasks in accordance with the district's food safety plan following established standard operating procedures (SOPs)

Attend all required in-service trainings and meetings; complete all mandatory annual continuing education requirements as established by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA)

Possess working knowledge of USDA meal pattern requirements and offer vs serve in accordance with National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and School Breakfast Program (SBP) guidelines or ability to learn

Provide coverage on point-of-sale computer to process staff/student meal & a la carte purchases at lunch

Provide direct supervision of and direction to students in the meal service area, including ensuring student meals meet federal nutrition standards

Assist with daily basic meal preparation, clean-up/dishroom activities & other food service-related responsibilities as time permits

Assist with other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor or production manager as necessary to meet program goals and objectives
