Director of Nursing Operations

Location: New Braunfels, TX
Employment Type: Direct Hire | Full-Time
Schedule: Monday–Friday (Director-level role with 24/7 responsibility for assigned department(s))
Compensation: $96,000–$145,000 annually (DOE)

Position Overview

Wheeler Staffing Partners is seeking an experienced Director of Nursing Operations to provide strategic, operational, and clinical leadership for one or more healthcare departments. This role is responsible for overseeing department performance, staffing, budgeting, quality initiatives, regulatory compliance, patient outcomes, and employee development.

The ideal candidate is a proven healthcare leader with strong nursing management experience, financial acumen, and a commitment to driving operational excellence and patient-centered care.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Operations

  • Direct and oversee daily operations for assigned department(s) on a 24-hour basis

  • Develop and execute departmental goals aligned with organizational objectives

  • Manage operating and capital budgets while optimizing resources

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, accreditation, and regulatory requirements

  • Monitor departmental performance metrics and implement improvement initiatives

  • Identify operational risks and lead corrective action plans

  • Maintain effective communication across clinical and administrative teams

  • Serve as a resource to staff, leadership, physicians, and internal stakeholders

  • Support organizational initiatives and strategic objectives

  • Promote integrated, efficient, and high-quality patient care services

Staff Management & Development

  • Lead recruitment, hiring, onboarding, retention, and succession planning efforts

  • Coach, mentor, and develop nursing and clinical staff

  • Conduct performance evaluations and competency assessments

  • Address employee relations matters and support professional growth

  • Promote employee engagement, accountability, and teamwork

  • Foster a culture of continuous learning and excellence

  • Recognize and reward employee achievements and contributions

  • Minimize turnover through effective leadership and employee support

Quality & Patient Care

  • Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary teams to improve patient outcomes

  • Support performance improvement, patient safety, and quality initiatives

  • Utilize data and analytics to drive operational and clinical decision-making

  • Lead root cause analysis and risk reduction efforts

  • Ensure department readiness to meet patient care demands

  • Monitor and communicate quality performance outcomes

  • Champion service excellence and patient satisfaction initiatives

  • Support case management and clinical improvement programs

  • Ensure patient population-specific needs are addressed appropriately

Financial & Strategic Management

  • Develop and manage annual operating and capital budgets

  • Monitor productivity, labor management, and resource utilization

  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and cost reduction

  • Support workflow redesign initiatives to improve efficiency and customer satisfaction

  • Ensure efficient use of departmental resources, equipment, and supplies

  • Participate in organizational leadership, quality, and performance management programs

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or related field preferred

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of experience within the applicable clinical specialty required

  • Progressive healthcare leadership and management experience preferred

  • Experience managing departmental operations, budgets, staffing, and quality initiatives strongly preferred

Licensure & Certifications

  • Current Texas Registered Nurse (RN) license required

  • Active Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required

  • Must obtain American Heart Association (AHA) Healthcare Provider BLS certification within 60 days of hire if not already held

  • Specialty certification or nursing leadership certification preferred
