Description:
The Clinical and Translational Research Unit (CTRU) at Medicine provides state-of-the-art ambulatory and laboratory research services for approximately 200300 clinical trials and research projects. The center is a multidisciplinary organizational unit whose mission is to streamline, accelerate, and promote the translation of basic discoveries into practical solutions that improve human health.
The CTRU is seeking a Nursing Assistant to support research participant visits and the clinical, operational, and administrative needs of the unit. Responsibilities include preparing and rooming participants, assisting with routine clinical procedures and specimen collection, documenting activities in Epic, and supporting participant comfort and daily unit operations.
The Nursing Assistants report to the CTRU Nurse Manager and work closely with registered nurses and research staff. This position requires attention to detail, effective communication, and the ability to multitask efficiently and accurately. Successful candidates provide compassionate, professional support to participants and work collaboratively to meet the needs of the unit.
Duties Include:
Greet, escort, and room research participants, and assist with preparation for scheduled visits and procedures.
Perform routine clinical measurements, tests, and specimen collection according to study protocols and unit procedures, following appropriate training. Activities may include vital signs, height and weight measurements, and EKGs.
Assist with specimen handling and processing according to study requirements and training.
Document measurements and completed activities accurately and promptly in Epic and other designated records.
Communicate completed tasks, participant needs, and any concerns to the assigned RN or appropriate research staff.
Support participant comfort needs, including assistance with research meals and refreshments as directed.
Assist with room preparation, turnover, and upkeep to maintain a clean, organized, and ready-to-use clinical environment.
Support unit operations through supply management and routine administrative and logistical tasks.
Collaborate with nursing and research staff to support participant needs and changing unit priorities.
Maintain participant privacy and confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and institutional policies, and follow basic Good Clinical Practice (GCP) principles relevant to assigned responsibilities.
Follow unit procedures for infection prevention and participant safety.
Other duties may also be assigned, consistent with the role, training, and demonstrated competencies.
Requirements:
Desired Qualifications:
Experience as a nursing assistant, medical assistant, or in a similar patient care role; clinical research experience is preferred.
Experience with routine clinical measurements, EKGs, and specimen collection or handling.
Familiarity with Epic or another electronic health record system.
Basic understanding of HIPAA and Good Clinical Practice principles.
Strong interpersonal skills and a compassionate, patient-centered approach.
Ability to work independently, take initiative, anticipate needs, and collaborate effectively with nurses and research staff.
Strong organizational skills and flexibility to manage changing priorities.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn new software.
Ability to communicate professionally, both in writing and verbally.
Education & Experience (Required):
Two-year college degree and one year of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (Required):
General knowledge of medical terminology.
Ability to follow clinical procedures and study-specific instructions.
Ability to document activities accurately and communicate effectively with participants and team members.
Ability to prioritize tasks and recognize concerns requiring RN guidance or follow-up.
Certifications & Licenses:
Applicable certifications or licenses required for assigned duties, with appropriate training and demonstrated competency for clinical procedures.
