General Description:  
Under the direct supervision of the RN, Nurse Technician I (NTI) is responsible for administering direct patient care as assigned as a member of the nursing team. The nurse technician responds to patient requests and performs other nursing functions to ensure optimum patient care. This position communicates changes in patient care to the Registered Nurse in a timely manner, has access to the locked Clean Utility/Meds/Nourishments rooms for access to patient nourishments and care items, and demonstrates competency in all procedures within scope of practice, as appropriate to the population of patients served. The Nurse Technician reports to the Director of People Development and the assigned department manager, with oversight provided by the People Development team.  

The Nurse Technician I role is designed to prepare nursing students for progression within Parrish Healthcare’s nursing career pathway. Eligibility for advancement to the Nurse Technician II position is contingent upon successful completion of Nurse Technician I requirements, demonstrated competency and performance, and a commitment to pursuing participation in Parrish Healthcare’s Nurse Residency Program following graduation and licensure

Key Responsibilities: 
  • Administers direct personal patient care.
  • Assists with activities of daily living of patients.
  • Performs assigned nursing procedures as delegated by the RN, including, but not limited to the following:
    •  Blood glucose testing
    • Phlebotomy
    • Foley catheter removal
    • Discontinuation of saline lock
    • EKG
    • Bladder scanning
    •  Pacemaker interrogation
    • Restraint application
    • Vital sign measurement
    • Intake and output measurements
  • Performs select unit secretary duties.
  • Performs Patient Care Advocate duties. Maintains and cleans patient areas, equipment and work areas.
  • Demonstrates compliance with department standards such as purposeful hourly rounding, bedside shift report, white board management and customer service standards. 
  • Communicate effectively with co-workers, patients, families and other health care team members.
  • Demonstrates appropriate utilization of resources and equipment.
  • Performs similar or related duties as assigned.
  • Knows fire, disaster and safety procedures and regulations as pertains to the work area
Requirements:

Formal Education
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Enrolled in an RN Nursing (ADN/BSN) program 
 Work Experience: 
  • No previous experience required
 Required Licenses, Certifications, Registrations: 
  • Current and active American Heart Association BLS certification.
