Nurse Team Leader - Lung Cancer Screening Service

Location: North East London, with travel across East and North Hertfordshire, West Essex, Harlow, Rainham, Havering, Waltham Forest and surrounding programme locations.

Salary: £46,000 + £4200 Car allowance or Company car

Hours: Full Time, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm (flexible working available, including compressed hours across 4 days)

At our Lung Cancer Screening Service (LCSS), we're transforming patient outcomes by identifying lung cancer at its earliest and most treatable stage. As our service continues to grow, we're looking for an experienced and passionate Nurse Team Leader to lead and support our nursing teams across multiple screening programmes.

This is an exciting opportunity for a respiratory nurse with leadership experience who wants to make a genuine impact on patient care while developing and supporting a high-performing clinical team.

About the Role

As Nurse Team Leader, you will provide clinical and operational leadership to a team of nurses and healthcare assistants, ensuring the delivery of safe, effective and patient-centred care across our Lung Cancer Screening programme.

Reporting to the Clinical Lead, you will oversee the day-to-day running of the service, support workforce development, maintain clinical standards and contribute to service improvement initiatives. You will also play a key role in nurse-led clinics, screening review meetings, management of incidental findings and nodule surveillance pathways.

This is a predominantly Monday to Friday role with flexibility available. While based within the region, travel to programme locations will be required, alongside monthly face-to-face clinics, staff training and site visits.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, support and develop a team of Nurses and Healthcare Assistants
• Provide clinical leadership and act as a visible role model across the service
• Deliver nurse-led clinics and provide specialist respiratory expertise
• Ensure high standards of patient care, safety and clinical governance
• Support workforce planning, performance management and staff development
• Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and screening review discussions
• Oversee management of nodule surveillance and incidental findings pathways
• Support service audits, quality improvement projects and national pilot programmes
• Build strong relationships with clinical stakeholders and partner organisations
• Ensure compliance with national screening standards and organisational policies

What We're Looking For

Essential

• Registered Nurse with an active NMC registration
• Significant respiratory nursing experience
• Previous people management experience
• Experience leading and developing clinical teams
• Strong communication, organisational and leadership skills
• Confident clinical decision-maker with excellent assessment skills
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams
• Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel across programme locations

Desirable

• Spirometry / ARTP accreditation
• IRMER qualification (or willingness to undertake training)
• Smoking cessation qualification
• Leadership, coaching or teaching qualification
• Experience within screening services or cancer pathways

Note that this payment is not applicable to clinical staff working within the Echocardiography division, or Diabetic Eye Screening. The Weekend Payment does not apply to those on a flexible working agreement and part time workers that have requested to work weekend hours/days as part of their working agreement. The Weekend Payment also doesn't apply to those who are working remotely or carrying out administrative work from home.
