Schedule: Full-Time / School-Year Calendar (with optional extended school year/summer program)

Position Summary

Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) - School Nurse

Setting: Cherry Brook Primary School PK-3

Are you a compassionate Registered Nurse (RN) who loves working with early childhood and primary-grade learners? Cherry Brook Primary School is seeking a dedicated, full-time School Nurse to foster a safe, healthy, and nurturing environment for our vibrant Pre-K through Grade 3 community.

In this vital role, you will be the heart of our school clinic, managing daily health operations, providing acute and emergency care, and partnering with parents and staff to support the unique developmental and medical needs of our youngest students.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct Student Care: Provide high-quality nursing care, triage, and first aid to students from Pre-K to 3rd Grade experiencing illness, injury, or emotional distress.
  • Medication & Health Management: Safely administer daily and emergency medications. Maintain and implement Individualized Healthcare Plans (IHPs) and 504 plans for students with chronic conditions (e.g., asthma, severe allergies, Type 1 diabetes).
  • Screening & Compliance: Conduct mandated state health screenings (vision, hearing) and meticulously maintain accurate, confidential electronic health records and immunization compliance.
  • Early Childhood Expertise: Comfort and care for young children with age-appropriate bedside manner, addressing developmental needs like potty-training medical support or developmental delays.
  • Emergency Response: Lead the campus medical emergency response and coordinate care with local emergency medical services when required.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Act as the primary liaison between families, healthcare providers, and school staff regarding student health concerns, contagious disease management, and wellness initiatives.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Education: Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred.
  • Licensure: Valid, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in Connecticut.
  • Certifications: Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification (BLS provider preferred).
  • Experience: Minimum of 2-3 years of nursing experience; pediatric, emergency room, or previous school nursing experience is highly desirable.
  • Soft Skills: Exceptional patience, warm communication style suited for young children, excellent parental collaboration skills, and strong clinical judgment.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to perform the essential physical functions of the position, including sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, reaching, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling. May be required to assist with the movement, positioning, or transfer of students and to lift or carry medical supplies and equipment.
