School Nurse

Title: School Nurse

Work Year: School-Year Position, 10 month

Department: Health Services

FLSA Status: Represented, Exempt

Reports To: Director of Health Services, in collaboration with the Building Principal

Salary Range: $59,154 - 69,731 per bargaining unit contract

Position Overview

The School Nurse provides comprehensive health services to meet the needs of the student population and enhance the educational process by removing health-related barriers to learning. Through planning, implementing, coordinating, monitoring, and evaluating preventive and responsive health practices, the School Nurse promotes the health and wellness of the entire school community. The School Nurse practices in accordance with School Nursing Standards of Practice, the Connecticut Nurse Practice Act, and Branford Public Schools policies and procedures.

Education & Experience:

  • Current Connecticut Registered Nurse (RN) license, or multi-state license per the Nurse Licensure Compact.
  • Current CPR/AED certification required.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of RN experience; school nursing experience preferred.
  • Experience working with school-aged children preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proficient computer skills including word processing, email, and electronic health record data entry.
  • Strong verbal, written, and nonverbal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with FERPA, HIPAA, and district policies.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with students, families, administrators, teachers, and community health agencies.
  • Ability to maintain emotional control and professional judgment in high-stress or emergency situations.
  • Ability to work effectively with frequent interruptions and changing priorities.
