The Registered Nurse (RN) provides nursing care to patients utilizing the nursing process and standards of practice for a professional nurse. The RN is expected to perform all staff nurse activities and function as charge nurse when assigned. The RN maintains overall accountability/responsibility for assigned patients, even though some activities/tasks may be delegated to Technical Nurses, Patient Care Associates, and/or Sitters. Assignments are performed appropriately to age and developmental level of patients being served.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
- Provides direct nursing care using the nursing process and established standards of practice.
- Performs all responsibilities associated with the staff nurse role.
- Functions as Charge Nurse when assigned.
- Maintains overall accountability for assigned patients.
- Delegates appropriate tasks to Technical Nurses, Patient Care Associates, and Sitters while retaining responsibility for patient care.
- Provides care appropriate to each patient's age and developmental needs.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Education
- Associate's Degree required
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
- New hires effective June 14, 2017, must obtain a BSN within three (3) years of hire or transfer
- Employees hired/transferred between August 1, 2013, and June 13, 2017, must follow the requirements outlined in their offer letter and job description
- Employees hired/transferred prior to August 1, 2013, are grandfathered
- BSN preferred
Licensure & Certifications
- Licensed to practice nursing in the State of Florida, or confirmation of eligibility for licensure upon receipt of SSN
- BLS from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross required on the first day of employment
- ACLS at hire or transfer required for Cardiac Holding Area, CVICU, MICU, PICU, North Pre-Op/PACU, and Trauma Center
- ACLS within six (6) months required for 3 ICU-North, 5N CCU, Cardiac Rehab, Non-Invasive Cardiology North, Non-Invasive Cardiac Lab, and Progressive RNs in Intensive Care Units
- PALS within six (6) months required for PICU and Trauma Center
- Fellowship RNs: ACLS, PALS, and NRP within six (6) months when required by the department
- Psych Unit: CPI training within 90 days and annually thereafter
- Professional certification preferred
Experience
- Less than one year of related experience required
- One (1) year of clinical experience preferred
Skills
- Demonstrated teamwork and professional communication with the healthcare team
- Ability to learn and apply computer technologies and procedures related to patient care delivery
