Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant- Surgical Urology at Penn Presbyterian

The Department of Surgical Urology is seeking a highly motivated and qualified Nurse Practitioner (NP) or master’s-prepared Physician Assistant (PA) to join the General Urology team at Penn Medicine University City (PMUC), located at Penn Presbyterian Hospital. The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will play an integral role in providing comprehensive, high-quality outpatient urologic care to patients with a broad range of urologic conditions. This full-time position offers the opportunity to practice independently while contributing to the continued delivery and development of patient-centered general urology services within a multidisciplinary academic health system.

The APP will be responsible for independently evaluating and managing new and established patients, obtaining detailed medical histories, performing focused physical examinations, reviewing diagnostic studies, establishing diagnoses, and developing individualized treatment plans. The clinical scope will encompass a variety of common and complex general urologic conditions, including lower urinary tract symptoms, benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), urinary incontinence, hematuria, nephrolithiasis, urinary retention, and other urologic concerns. The APP will also provide ongoing management of chronic urologic conditions, monitor treatment response, communicate diagnostic findings, and coordinate appropriate follow-up to promote continuity of care.

Working within the APP’s scope of practice, the provider will exercise clinical judgment in determining appropriate diagnostic evaluations, initiating and adjusting medical management, interpreting laboratory and imaging results, and identifying patients who require further evaluation or intervention by an attending urologist. The APP will maintain clear communication with physicians and other members of the health care team when consultation or escalation of care is indicated, ensuring that patients receive timely and appropriate treatment.

In addition to direct patient care, the APP will contribute to the efficient operation of the general urology practice through timely clinical documentation, management of diagnostic results, patient communication, referral coordination, and follow-up planning. The provider will be expected to manage an independent outpatient clinic schedule, prioritize patient needs, and support effective clinical workflows while maintaining a strong commitment to patient safety, quality improvement, and evidence-based practice.

Summary:

• All CRNPs function under the guidelines as designed by the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center medical staff guidelines and are credentialed through that body. The CRNP will be held accountable through a formal job description, delineation of privileges, and through their agreement with their collaborating physician and a Collaborative Practice Agreement. All clinical work hours and associated requirements will be defined and managed under the direction of the collaborating physician/division designee, and within the Human Resource guidelines. The Nurse Practitioner contributes to excellence in education, leadership, professional contribution and practice.
