Position Summary
The Per Diem Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) will provide flexible clinical coverage across the Benderson Family Heart Center at Boston Children's Hospital, including the Acute Cardiac Care Unit (ACCU), Cardiac Procedural Unit, Consult services, and General and Specialty Ambulatory Cardiology. This role provides comprehensive, evidence-based care to infants, children, adolescents, and adults with congenital and acquired heart disease, collaborating closely with attending physicians, surgeons, and the multidisciplinary team to deliver exceptional patient-centered care.

Key Responsibilities
The Per Diem NP/PA will be responsible for:
  • Providing flexible inpatient and outpatient coverage across ACCU, General and Specialty Cardiology, Cardiac Procedure unit (CPU), and Consult services.
  • Providing direct care for critically ill and medically complex cardiac patients, including pre- and post-operative cardiac patients.
  • Performing comprehensive patient assessments, developing treatment plans, monitoring clinical progress, and coordinating discharge planning in collaboration with supervising physicians.
  • Participating in multidisciplinary rounds and collaborating with physicians, nurses, pharmacists, respiratory therapists, and consulting services to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Managing pediatric and adult patients with congenital heart disease, arrhythmias, heart failure, and pre- and post-heart transplant needs.
  • Providing inpatient care for patients before and after cardiac surgery and for cardiology patients admitted with non-cardiac medical conditions.
  • Supporting CPU workflows, including assessment and discharge of patients following cardiac catheterization procedures.
  • Providing coverage for cardiology consult services, including evaluation and management of patients with acute and complex cardiac conditions.
  • Coordinating care and facilitating safe transitions of care, including complex discharge planning and patient/family education.
  • Promoting evidence-based practice, quality improvement initiatives, patient safety, and family-centered care throughout the hospitalization.
Schedule: 6 shifts every 8 weeks or 9 shifts every 12-13 weeks with some off shifts when covering inpatient (nights or weekends and minor holidays)

Minimal Qualifications
Education
Master of Science in Nursing or Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies.

Experience
5+ years of pediatric cardiac, pediatric critical care, or pediatric acute care APP experience preferred.
Experience managing patients with congenital heart disease and complex cardiac conditions is strongly preferred.

Licensure/Certifications
Current Massachusetts NP or PA license with PNP or FNP certification.

The posted pay range is Boston Children’s reasonable and good-faith expectation for this pay at the time of posting.
