Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant, General Surgery

Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing coordination and direct care to patients diagnosed with Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia
  • Functioning as the point person for patients in the hospital and coordinating pre-hospitalization care with the neonatology and maternal fetal medicine teams.
  • Majority of time will be spent caring for inpatients - including daily review of patient data, performing physical exams and assessments, assist in bedside procedures or coordination of care under the supervision of the CDH team physician(s).
  • Participating in daily morning ICU rounds, as well as rounds on the inpatient surgical floor to reinforce plan of care and communicate with families at the bedside.
  • Liaison to the core CDH team to communicate concerns and plans throughout the day. Creation of daily sign-out email with events, follow up and plans.
  • Coordinate and lead weekly multidisciplinary CDH rounds.
  • Establish educational initiatives for bedside providers for the routine care of CDH patients.
  • Working with CDH team in marketing and publicity initiatives, research and database development.
  • Assisting with outpatient care on occasion, which may include direct patient care in clinic, telephone triage, and coordination of home care, and provision of ongoing support to patients, their families and referring providers.
  • Excellent communication skills, flexibility, interest and experience working in a team setting/complex academic environment will be essential.
  • Working with 2nd inpatient CDH Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant to carry out the above responsibilities.
  • Working 40 hours per week, four 10-hour shifts Monday through Friday

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

  • A Master's of Science in Nursing or a Master's Degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program

Experience:

  • 1 year of PA, or RN/NP acute care (hospital) experience required, 2+ years strongly preferred
  • NICU or ICU experience strongly preferred
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills and computer skills.

Licensure/ Certifications:

  • A current certification as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, Family Nurse Practitioner
  • MA licensure as an Advanced Practice Nurse, or Physician Assistant.

The posted pay range is Boston Children's reasonable and good-faith expectation for this pay at the time of posting.
