The Nurse Practitioner I is part of the Tulane University Campus Health team of committed professionals dedicated to supporting and promoting student health and wellbeing as a core institutional value through a multidisciplinary, comprehensive approach. This position resides within The Health Center for Student Care, and reports to the Medical Director. This position is responsible for providing clinical services, referral to specialists, and provide health education/literacy.
The Nurse Practitioner I is a part of the medical team that provides health care services to the student population at Tulane University. This position provides medical assessments and exams, health education/literacy, referrals, and health screenings in a wide variety of clinic settings. The Health Center for Student Care operates clinical service to students through primary care, women's health, and men's health clinics. The Nurse Practitioner I also provides outpatient procedures such as suture/staple placement and removal, I&D, cryotherapy, fluorescence eye staining, removal of foreign body, and other procedures as certified. This position is a part of the health Center provider group and attends regular meetings, participates in peer review projects, grand rounds, and is involved in community engagement activities. As part of a multidisciplinary team, this position demonstrates qualities of effective leadership, communication, and professionalism.

Required Education and Experience:
- Master''s Degree.
- Completion of an ANA-approved Nurse Practitioner program with either an AANC or AANP certification.
- Licensure as a Nurse Practitioner from the Louisiana State Board of Nursing by the date of hire.
- 1 year of experience in a clinical outpatient setting.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 4 years of experience in a clinical outpatient setting.
- 1 year of experience in a Primary Care setting.
- 1 year of college health experience.
- Knowledge and competency to supervise health profession students and trainees.
- Maintain current clinical knowledge on health-related topics.
- Ability to utilize electronic health records and computerized medical programs. Maintains accurate and up-to-date medical records, including charting for billing components.
- Demonstrates clinical competence in providing out-patient procedures, including but not limited to: Incision & drainage, removal of foreign bodies, laceration care, wound care, fluorescein eye exams, and liquid nitrogen treatment for select dermatologic conditions.
- Knowledge and ability to counsel patients on medical and/or psychological problems, and preventive care. Refers patients for medical and/or other treatment when appropriate or indicated.
- Ability to consult with outside clinical providers and public health agencies in securing treatments for patients requiring services beyond those available at the Tulane Student Health Centers.
- Ability in all care, ensures compliance with regulatory and legal requirements.
- Ability to maintain professional affiliations, licenses, certifications, etc. Stays current on developments in the field of medicine and college health.
- Skills in providing exemplary patient care and customer service, including maintaining confidentiality and being reliably available to patients when they seek care or advice.
