A 221-bed acute care hospital and Level II Trauma Center in Sanford is seeking a Nurse Manager of Surgical Services to lead operations across its perioperative departments. This facility provides a wide range of advanced services, including open-heart surgery, interventional cardiology, electrophysiology, robotic surgery, orthopedic care, and spine programs.
Position Overview
This leadership role is responsible for the day-to-day management of the Operating Room and supporting perioperative areas, including CVOR, anesthesia services, and sterile processing. The Nurse Manager oversees a multidisciplinary surgical team and ensures efficient coordination of staff, resources, and patient flow to support safe, high-quality surgical care.
A strong focus is placed on operational efficiency, staff development, physician collaboration, and maintaining high standards across clinical and support services.
Key Responsibilities
• Oversee daily operations of the Operating Room and perioperative support departments
• Lead and support a multidisciplinary team including RNs, surgical technologists, first assistants, schedulers, OR aides, anesthesia staff, and sterile processing technicians
• Manage staffing, scheduling, performance evaluations, and disciplinary processes as needed
• Promote strong working relationships with physicians, hospital leadership, and department partners
• Ensure compliance with accreditation standards, hospital policies, and regulatory requirements
• Monitor supply usage, equipment needs, and resource allocation
• Support quality improvement initiatives and patient safety efforts
• Drive operational performance related to productivity, efficiency, and patient satisfaction
• Collaborate with leadership to achieve departmental and organizational goals
Qualifications
• Minimum of 3 years of recent acute care Operating Room RN experience required
• Minimum of 1 year of recent OR leadership experience in a charge nurse, coordinator, supervisor, or management role required
• Registered Nurse (RN) license required (APRN also accepted)
• Associate degree or Nursing diploma required
• CNOR certification preferred
• BLS required within 30 days of hire
• ACLS required within 6 months of hire
• PALS required within 6 months of hire
