As the Nurse Manager for Acute Oncology, you will provide leadership for a dedicated nursing team within a specialized oncology environment while advancing quality, patient experience, employee engagement, and operational excellence. The Role
The Nurse Manager is responsible for the overall operations, clinical excellence, and staff development of a 28-bed Acute Oncology unit caring for patients with hematologic malignancies, solid tumor cancers, and complex medical-surgical needs. This leader will cultivate an environment where nurses are empowered to practice at the highest level while delivering evidence-based, compassionate care.
In this role, you will partner closely with physicians, advanced practice providers, pharmacists, and interdisciplinary teams to support outstanding patient outcomes and an exceptional care experience.
Key responsibilities include:
Lead daily clinical and operational activities of a specialized inpatient oncology unit
Foster a culture of safety, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement
Support and develop nursing staff through coaching, mentorship, performance management, and career growth opportunities
Drive quality, patient experience, and employee engagement initiatives
Partner with interdisciplinary teams to ensure coordinated delivery of complex oncology care
Support evidence-based practice and nursing excellence initiatives
Advance professional goverance principles and encourage frontline nurse participation in decision-making
Ensure high-quality care delivery for patients requiring chemotherapy administration, blood products, complex infusion therapies, and supportive oncology treatments
Promote ongoing staff education and specialty oncology knowledge development
Lead change initiatives and operational improvements that enhance patient outcomes and team effectiveness

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing from accredited nursing program, Master''s degree in related field within 5 years of hire.
Experience: At least 3 years of progressively more responsible experience as a registered nurse in a patient care environment required.
For Dialysis Nurse Manager: As required by job be a full-time employee of the facility; have at least 12 months of experience in clinical nursing, and an additional 6 months of experience in providing nursing care to patients on maintenance dialysis.
Licensure: License to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia required. American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required. Valid Virginia Driver's license required for managers with responsibility operations in multiple locations. Must have applicable specialty certification at hire or within 3 years .
Preferred Requirements:
2-3 years of Adult Oncology experience
ONS Certification
2 years of management experience
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
The pay range for this role is $110,697.60 - $147,680.00 annually. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate''s qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
