    Description

    Position Summary:

    A Registered Nurse with 24 hour accountability for managing one or more defined areas. Provides overall supervision of Registered Nurses and other healthcare providers who deliver nursing

    care within areas of responsibility. Responsible for recruitment and retention, performance review, and professional development; involved in the budget formulation process and quality outcomes; and helps to plan for, organize, and lead the delivery of nursing care for a designated patient care area. A leader that communicates organizational vision and values and asks for the involvement of the work group to achieve target performance in quality, safety, service, efficiency and effectiveness.

    a. Participates on unit and hospital Shared Governance Councils to address issues and facilitate information exchange.

    b. Educates and supports staff on principles of Shared Governance.

    Ability to manage expenses to established budget and staffing plan

    a. Follows Human Resource procedures related to selection and hiring of new employees.

    b. Engages and educates staff in peer interviewing and selection of staff.

    c. Provides staff evaluations utilizing peer feedback and self-evaluations. Evaluations are provided in a timely manner.

    d. Creates an environment conducive to professional growth and development.

    e. Assures appropriate maintenance of employee files.

    f. Monitors staff satisfaction through NDNQI staff nurse satisfaction and employee satisfaction surveys.

    f. Identifies key issues related to satisfaction and retention and develops an action plan based on input from staff.

    i. Executes and evaluates effectiveness of the plan.

    j. Provides mentorship and career counseling to aspiring clinicians and leaders so they may develop required skill sets to achieve succession planning.
