Position Overview A large, integrated healthcare system in San Francisco is seeking an experienced Nurse Manager to oversee Operating Room nursing operations at a high-volume acute-care hospital. The ideal candidate is a decisive clinical leader with a strong OR background who can drive surgical excellence, develop high-performing teams, and manage a complex perioperative environment. Key Responsibilities
Provide 24/7 operational and clinical leadership for the hospital Operating Room department
Manage staffing, scheduling, and on-call coverage to support all surgical service lines
Lead and develop OR nursing staff through hiring, performance management, and professional growth programs
Oversee perioperative quality metrics, patient safety initiatives, and surgical site infection prevention protocols
Partner with surgical faculty, anesthesia, and hospital leadership to optimize OR throughput, efficiency, and quality
Manage department budget including labor, supply chain, and capital equipment planning
Ensure full regulatory compliance with Joint Commission, CMS, AORN standards, and California state requirements
Lead root cause analysis and corrective action for adverse events, near misses, and quality variances
Oversee onboarding and competency validation for all new OR nursing and surgical tech staff
Serve as primary escalation point for complex clinical, staffing, and operational issues within the OR
Requirements
Current RN licensure in the state of California required
Minimum of 4 years of OR or perioperative nursing experience
Minimum of 2 years of OR nursing leadership or charge nurse experience
Strong working knowledge of surgical service lines, instrumentation, and perioperative nursing standards
Proven ability to manage staff and operations in a high-volume, high-acuity surgical environment
Strong leadership, communication, and conflict resolution skills
BSN required; MSN preferred
CNOR certification preferred; BLS and ACLS required
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in a related field is preferred
