Nurse Manager - Behavioral HealthLocation: Randallstown, MarylandFull TimeThe Behavioral Health Nurse Manager assumes 24-hour accountability for coordinating resources and ensuring quality patient care and service delivery. Reporting to the Director, this role provides overall direction and coordination of behavioral health unit operations while supporting the organization's mission, vision, goals, and nursing objectives.
The ideal candidate is currently working in an
inpatient behavioral health facility, preferably as an
Assistant Nurse Manager or similar nursing leader who is ready to progress into a Nurse Manager role.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide overall leadership and coordination of behavioral health unit operations.
- Ensure quality, safe, and effective patient care consistent with nursing standards and organizational goals.
- Monitor changes in nursing practice and behavioral health treatment modalities and incorporate appropriate practices.
- Use Performance Improvement activities and evidence-based practices to improve patient outcomes.
- Communicate effectively with nursing leadership regarding staffing, physician, patient care, and operational issues.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary and allied health teams to improve patient care delivery.
- Ensure nursing staff operate within applicable ethical, legal, regulatory, and professional standards.
- Ensure consistent and effective completion of hourly rounding and coach staff as necessary.
- Establish standards, expectations, and performance objectives for unit personnel.
- Promote teamwork, cooperation, and consensus building to achieve positive patient outcomes.
- Provide coaching, mentoring, feedback, and role modeling through rounds, team meetings, and performance improvement activities.
- Develop and implement unit improvement initiatives with emphasis on flexibility, creativity, quality, and cost effectiveness.
- Identify and monitor unit-based indicators related to customer experience, clinical performance, and financial improvement.
- Assist with preparation and implementation of operational and capital budgets.
- Develop and monitor the unit-based expense budget, including staffing and supplies.
- Monitor financial expense variance reports and maintain financial variances within plus or minus one percent.
- Maintain awareness of current regulatory requirements governing patient care.
- Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory agencies and accrediting bodies, including JCAHO, IDPH/HCFA, and specialty standards.
- Incorporate national standards of practice into unit-based standards.
- Develop, maintain, and ensure compliance with departmental policies and procedures.
- Monitor and measure the effectiveness of unit standards of practice and patient care.
Required Qualifications
- 3–5 years of nursing experience.
- Nursing Degree.
- Current Maryland Registered Nurse (RN) license or eligibility to obtain a Maryland license.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Leadership experience within an inpatient behavioral health environment is strongly aligned with the position.
- Strong staff leadership, coaching, communication, and performance improvement skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Current Maryland APRN – Clinical Nurse Specialist license or eligibility to obtain Maryland licensure.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
- Current experience as an Assistant Nurse Manager or similar nursing leadership role in inpatient behavioral health.
