JOB
PURPOSE
SUMMARY:
This
position
is
responsible
for
ensuring
the
safe,
quality,
and
compliant
delivery
of
assigned
clinical
nursing
care
to
ensure
students
are
healthy,
safe,
and
ready
to
learn.
This
position
is
also
responsible
for
addressing
the
physical,
mental,
emotional,
and
social
health
needs
of
students
in
an
effort
to
bridge
healthcare
and
education.
KEY
FUNCTIONS,
ESSENTIAL
DUTIES,
AND
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Health
Services:
1.
Applies,
follows,
and
appropriately
utilizes
the
applicable
nursing
processes
and
protocols
to
ensure
students'
physical,
psychological,
and
social
needs
are
consistently
met.
2.
Obtains
information
necessary
for
the
maintenance
of
cumulative
health
records
for
all
students
in
their
care
and
ensures
compliance
with
school
board
policy
and
state
law
on
immunizations
and
communicable
disease
control.
3.
Schedules
and
performs
applicable
State
mandated
screenings,
re-testing
of
identified
referrals,
and
follow
up
communications
with
parents/guardians.
4.
Administers
medication
as
indicated
by
prescribing
physician
and
parent
written
approval
according
to
District
Board
of
Trustees'
policy.
5.
Administers
first
aid,
CPR,
and/or
AED,
as
appropriate,
in
school
health
emergencies.
6.
Provides
health
counseling,
as
needed,
to
assist
students
and
their
respective
parent(s)/guardian(s)
in
obtaining
the
most
appropriate
scope
of
treatment
and
rehabilitation.
7.
Initiates
referrals
for
students
requiring
health
services
outside
of
the
school,
and
ensures
timely
follow
up
efforts
are
facilitated
to
private
and
community
health
agencies.
8.
Trains
and
supervises
unlicensed
personnel
to
perform
delegable
health
tasks
in
accordance
with
applicable
requirements
and
standards
set
forth
by
the
Board
of
Nurse
Examiners
Rules
and
Regulations.
9.
Assesses
student
health
status
and
initiates
individual
health
plans
for
students
with
special
health
needs.
10.
In
accordance
with
the
Board
of
Nurse
Examiners
Rules
and
Regulations
on
delegation,
the
school
nurse
will
train
and
supervise
unlicensed
personnel
to
perform
delegable
health
tasks.
11.
Provides
documentation
of
competency
to
appropriate
personnel
for
unlicensed
personnel
trained
to
perform
a
select
scope
of
healthcare
tasks
appropriate
for
delegation.
12.
Verifies
competency
of
LVN
(Licensed
Vocational
Nurse),
as
required.
13.
Participates
in
case
management
meetings
for
the
student
population
up
to
and
including
students
with
special
education
needs
at
the
assigned
campus.
14.
Participates
in
admission,
review,
and
dismissal
(ARD)meetings
for
students
with
special
health
needs
that
impact
their
respective
learning.
15.
Monitors
environmental
and
safety
related
events
that
may
impact
the
health
of
students,
and
consults
with
administrators
and
appropriate
staff
regarding
the
appropriate
responses
and
measures
to
apply.
16.
Assists
campus
coordinator,
or
other
personnel,
as
appropriate,
in
providing
educational
support
services
for
students
who
are
pregnant
or
who
are
parents.

Confers
with
appropriate
leadership
personnel
in
helping
to
establish
policies
and
procedures
for
the
control
of
communicable
disease
within
the
schools.
18.
Supports
classroom
teacher(s),
as
assigned,
with
providing
students
with
up-to-date
and
relevant
materials
relating
to
student
health
topics.
19.
Communicates
health
information
concerning
students
to
parents,
school
personnel,
and
community
agencies
in
a
professional
and
confidential
manner.
20.
Assesses
clinic
needs
for
supplies,
equipment,
and
health
education
materials,
and
submits
requisition(s)
to
appropriate
personnel
and
in
accordance
with
the
established
approval
process.
21.
Performs
and
records
information
relating
recurring
maintenance
checks
on
health
services
related
equipment
on
campus
including,
without
limitation,
campus
AED(s)
and
audiometer.
22.
Coordinates
with
designated
campus
safety
personnel
to
facilitate
training
for
campus
safety
team
and
other
campus
staff
in
the
proper
administration
of
protocols
including,
without
limitation,
CPR,
AED,
and
first
aid.
23.
Participates
in
emergency
response
team
efforts,
as
requested
by
duly
authorized
personnel.
24.
Prepares
and
submits
health
services
related
reports
to
appropriate
internal
personnel,
and
in
accordance
with
applicable
established
timelines
and
protocols.
25.
Conducts
mandated,
or
otherwise
necessary,
training
on
subjects
including,
without
limitation,
blood
borne
pathogens
and
exposure
control
plan
implementation,
as
needed.
26.
Conducts
campus
specific
diabetes
training
of
campus
staff
as
needed.
27.
Coordinates
campus-based
employee
health
and
wellness
programs
and
related
initiatives.
28.
Participates
in
staff
development
programs
and
initiatives,
as
assigned
by
duly
authorized
personnel.

Performs
all
assigned

accordance
with

procedures
and
protocols
established
by
the

and
District,

in
accordance
with
standards
and
requirements
set
forth

Registered
Nurse
(RN)
in
the
State
of
Texas,
or
Duly
Licensed
Registered
Nurse
(RN)
from
a
Nurse
Licensure
Compact
State
Three
years
of
experience
working
in
a
Registered
Nurse
(RN)
capacity
working
with
children
and
adolescents
Or
an
equivalent
combination
of
education
and
work
experience
Active
and
