Position Objective: The District Daily Substitute Nurse will promote and protect the health, safety, and well-being of all students in accordance with MA Department of Public Health (DPH) regulations and District policies. This position exists to support student learning by providing direct health services, managing chronic conditions, administering medications, and responding to medical emergencies. The District Daily Substitute Nurse will collaborate with families, staff, and community health providers to foster healthy school environments and ensure that all students are able to fully access their educational programs.
Responsibilities:
Responds to health issues and medical emergency situations for the purpose of addressing immediate safety concerns Administers health care and First Aid for the purpose of providing appropriate care for ill, medically fragile, and/or injured children Assesses and evaluates the health and developmental status of students for the purpose of identifying physical disorders and other factors affecting the learning process Collaborates with parents, students, health care providers, and/or other agencies for the purpose of promoting needed treatment, securing information and complying with legal requirements Implements Individualized Health Care Plans (IHCPs) and Emergency Care Plans (ECPs) for students with chronic conditions Communicates with parents and all involved community practitioners and agencies for the purpose of promoting needed treatment Monitors all student medications administered at school as prescribed by a physician Refers students and families requiring further medical attention and provides appropriate community resources of necessary services and assuring continuity of health service and care Performs other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit Completes health and wellness associated tasks as assigned by the Principal or designee and the Director of Student Services
Qualifications: Current license as a Registered Nurse (RN) in Massachusetts Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or higher Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) School Nurse Licensure, or eligibility to obtain licensure preferred Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check Salary & Terms of Employment: Per diem employment. Salary Range: $150.00 per day
