The University of Maryland, Baltimore School of Medicine is seeking a Nurse Coordinator to work in the Department of Neurology, Clinical Center for Adults with Neuro-Developmental Disorders (CCAND). The Department of Neurology provides evaluation, treatment, and care for patients suffering from a wide range of neurological disorders including stroke, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), and migraine. We provide care through our inpatient and consultative services, our designated Comprehensive Stroke Center, our Level 4 Epilepsy Center, our 22-bed Neuro-Critical Care Unit, and our busy outpatient practice. The Department also provides state-of-the-art rehabilitation services. A number of departmental faculty received grant funding from the National Institutes of Health and the Veteran's Administration to study the role of genetics in stroke, epilepsy, and Parkinson's disease, new brain imaging modalities in multiple sclerosis, biomarkers in multiple sclerosis, and neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism and intellectual disability. Many faculty are lead investigators in clinical trials to identify new therapeutic approaches for a broad range of neurological disorders.

The Nurse Coordinator will be involved in the daily coordination of the CCAND assisting the MD and NPs with various patient-care related administrative tasks. The Nurse Coordinator will independently handle pre authorizations for the CCAND patients, manage lab requests and respond to patient calls, respond to portal messages and assist with RX refill. Strong oral and written communication skills are essential for success in this role, as the candidate will serve as the primary point of contact for patients. Additionally, proficiency in computer skills is highly desired to facilitate the upkeep of a comprehensive database for patient data outcomes.

Essential Functions:

Responsible ongoing coordination of patient care-related administrative responsibilities for CCAND clinic patients, including but not limited to:

  • Responding to patient phone calls in a timely manner
  • Managing and responding to patient portal messages
  • Reviewing, processing, prescription refill requests to pharmacies
  • Managing pre-authorization requests, including follow-up and ensuring completion
  • Managing lab requests and ensuring all applicable results are uploaded into Epic
  • Assisting with coordination of patient care needs as appropriate
  • Assisting with disability, drivers, and other insurance related forms
  • Working to maintain the CCAND Clinical Database

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelors in Nursing

Experience: Five (5) years experience as a registered nurse, at least one (1) year in research specialization.

Supervisory: Experience in patient or project management preferred

Licensure/Certification: Maryland licensed registered nurse.

Other: May require training related to occupational safety and health, and environmental compliance

Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 undergraduate college credits being equivalent to one year of related experience. In instances where specific education and/or experience is required only directly related education and/or experience may be substituted.

Salary: $107,500.00 - $120,000.00, Commensurate with education and experience.
